lawnman
Are there any known problems or anything to look for on a 2000 lincoln ls v-6 ? Thanks
TurboRust
ball joints are silly on the front, part of a whole steering knuckle. they're non greasable and will start to squeak eventually on every bump and turn engine is pretty failproof. AJ
they are a ford so right there is a common problem.

TurboRust
Head gaskets on the ls v6. uhh are you thinking of the old 3.8 v6's? because the motor in that is basically the same thing in tauruses and sables from 96-current, mazda tribute, and ford escapes, mazda 6, ford fusion, and the lincoln ls. it is also almost the same as the 2.5 contour/mystique/cougar motors. None of which are notorious for headgasket issues. A.J. Astro/ safari/ blazer/bravada/jimmy/envoy front ends win the battle of shittiest front ends. i'm sorry. Astro/ safari/ blazer/bravada/jimmy/envoy front ends win the battle of shittiest front ends. i'm sorry. really? i would have to say its a draw with ford and dodge, both of those are pure shit as well. i don't see as many front end problems from the S/T and L/M outside the idler arms. sometimes a ball joint or two, maybe people don't bring junk to a dealer. Reed44
they are a ford so right there is a common problem. No. Every manufact. has there problems. Ford has durable suspension, espically on the trucks. The engines are good and the trans. The only cars you can knock on for ford is the escort, taurus, and contour for breaking springs and having some trans problems. Chevy has horrible suspension problems and intake gasket problems because of dex-col. Idler, pitman, ball joints always go out on the trucks. They are getting better though. Any GM that pulls in a shop with some miles on it you can gurantee it needs a intake gasket. Dodge will crap a trans, guranteed. Ford bulds a very reliable vehicle, keeping maintenance up is key and will determine its life for any thing you buy.

No , I saw two headgasket failures in the ls v6 where I worked fulltime as a mechanic although that doesnt mean to generalize but seeing two failures was something to remember. Guest 614Streets
hmm interesting.. did you see anything that lead up to it..i.e out of coolant or failed waterpump? Hey derek I worked at a used car lot , alot of our cars came from the auction etc which means alot of cars with neglagent owners , repos etc, so I wouldnt be suprised if that was the culprit , also at that old work I didnt have access to TSB's so I didn't know if there was a hg issue in the ls v6. Reed44
--But you said that ford is pure shit and that ford is the problem. Untill GM quits using dex-col, they all WILL have gasket problems at some point. Dex-col eats gaskets and there is nothing to solve it but not use it. I never claimed to know everything about cars and never will becuase its not possible. I dont care if you hate ford, just opens up your eyes beyond chevy a little.
