My bathroom remodel (lots o' pics)

Recommended Posts

Started my bathroom remodel this weekend and nearing the reconstruction phase on Day 2 (not too bad). But here's a few pictures of what's been done so far. The end result will be a 20" deep tub with new 13"x13" ceramic tile on the floor and shower. Also installing a new vanity along with everything else. The main reason for this remodel was that the shower was starting to mold between the surround and the tub. After re-culking the shower about 6 times, it was time to investigate why it was molding after only a few months. You'll see in the pictures why that was the case.

The beginning with only the medicine cabinet removed.

Why did you remove all the insulation was it damp? Are you putting it back?

Yeah, the plastic & and insulation were kinda nasty, so I figured I'd rather just buy new stuff and start all over. After Day 2, finally making some progress. We went with an extra-deep tub from Kohler that is 20" deep vs the standard 14" deep.

You are tiling the walls and making your own niches? For I assume holding bottels of shampoo etc?

Nice work so far I will be doing this next year or this year if I run into some money I to have the multi piece tubs and they SUCK for sealing if not kept up on. I will be doing the tile walls as well which offer better moisture resistance if done correctly. I have two bathrooms to do as well...house modding is fun but I'm always thinking of what I want to do!

So you are over lapping the paper on the sheet rock? Are you going to tile over that or just paint? I am thinking it will not be a smooth transition? I could be wrong though.

Looking really good! reminds me of when I redid the first level in our condo. Tile floors in the kitchen and wood floors in the living room.

Is it done?

Not yet. We've run into a slight issue with installing a new wider tub. There is a stud located directly in the center (width-wise), so we have to redo all the plumbing to center it to the new wider tub. But here's a few pics of a bit of the progress in the last two days. The new plumbing is going in today and hopefully we can start on the paint and tile work tomorrow.
