LOL @ Metros...

I hope someone did a calculation to determine that the $7300 to pay for the used metro will be worth the savings at the pump.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/wayoflife/05/20/geo.metro/index.html

Let's assume $4.50 a gallon....40mpg...2500miles a month for work (100mi commute x 20 bizness days + extra miles around town)

4.50/40 = .1125cents per mile

2500x0.1125 = $281.25 per month in gas

The Honda Elephant - 25mpg...same variables as above

4.50/25 = .18cents per mile

2500x0.18 = $450 per month in gas.

Metro saves you $168.75 a month in gas...$2025 a year...significant! BUT...

...you still paid waaaaay too much for a used, mid-nineties Geo Metro. Have fun driving it for a minimum of two years just to break even on the investment. :thumbdown:

Might I suggest a better offering?

I sold my Dodge Colt like 3 years ago for $600, I think. It got between 34 - 42 MPG. Was a POS, but got great gas mileage. I wonder what I could sell it for today... :)

im lost, why compare a metro to a 25 mpg honda, why not compare it to a 15mpg car.. which prolly more likely in most cases where someones wants a "gas saver".

Which would be 750 a month. savings of 5625 a year.

edit: not 1 metro for 7 grand http://motors.shop.ebay.com/Cars-Trucks___metro_W0QQ_nkwZmetroQQ_catZ6001QQ_fromZR40QQ_pcatsZ6000

Because the lady in the article bought a Metro for $7300 to replace her Element.

"For the most part, Solomon plans on using the car for commuting from her home in Rochester, Washington, to her job. The vehicle she has now, a Honda Element, was getting 28 mpg and she was filling up twice a week, costing her nearly $100. Stations were charging $3.97 a gallon in her area Tuesday, she said. "
