Well I wasn't really planning on buying a Mini Cooper...

Alright guy's, last week I was enjoying a beautiful day down on campus in my pride and joy, a 1993.5 Infiniti G20 that I was building to be a weekend race car. I had just completed putting in a brand new alternator 2 days before and this was the first time taking it beyond the block. I also just got my big brake kit switched over from my other g20. All of the sudden, from the right hand side I saw a Chevy Tahoe flying down the alleyway. He completely blew the stop sign going about 35 mph. I had maybe 10 feet to stop, which didn't happen. I slammed into him going about 25 mph which totaled my car, ruining all of of the European parts I had spent years searching for.

Anyways, the car was a complete loss, I ended up getting screwed on my wheels, bumper, lights, grill, and brakes. This was my first accident ever, and it had to be in my baby with all the expensive parts on it and not my daily grinder Subaru.

Since I am graduating from college I wanted a car that I didn't have to worry about and would let me concentrate on starting my career as a turf specialist as well as starting up my photography business. After test driving numerous cars I decided to try out the Mini at a local dealership. Up until then I had only been look at sports sedan's but I had always loved the styling of the Mini Cooper, so I gave it a shot. I took it for a spin and immediately fell in love. That particular model was not in the best of shape, but I was hooked and searching all over for some cars. Saturday night I stumbled upon a car owned by a lady in Cleveland. It had the Sports and Cold weather packages and only had 17,000 miles on it. It turns out the only reason her and her husband were selling the car was because the baby seat wouldn't fit in the backseat. I immediately jumped on the opportunity and cut a check shortly after my test drive.

Now I am the proud new owner (as of Sunday) of an 06 Mini Cooper S with the 6-speed.

I had an hour to spare after my class last night so I grabbed the camera equipment for an inaugural shoot. YAY!

The plans are... well there aren't any plans. If any mods happen in the future it will definitely be some springs, shocks, and a couople bars. Later down the road I would like to install an LSD, I/H/E and then think about upping the boost. The time frame is a matter of years, certainly not months.

And for the sake of the thread, here are two pictures of my car I took last Friday before she died. :(

Scott, I'm really sorry to hear and see what happened to the G20. I saw those pics here and on Access Photo, and it makes me sad to see the car like that. It's nice to see that you've got a new toy. Have fun with it!

Thank you, I appreciate the kind words! I'm extremely happy with the new car, even though I didn't really want to spend the money. Once I get myself situated I might buy another g20 later on down the road and build it into a race wehicle. But for now, this'll do.

Beautiful.

If you need help with anything let me know!

Awesome, thank you for pointing me to that Mini forum. After reading up on the cars I was sold!

+1 on the G20...it was a tastefully modded car.

Good looking Mini...just wash the wheels next time prior to your shoot!

Unfortunately I don't think the lady that owned it ever hand cleaned the car so the wheels need some TLC. I was thinking about taking it in to wheel medic and seeing if they can, blast 'em, fix the curbing on one of them, and maybe powdercoat. First I need to get my budget adjusted for the new expense, so I know exactly where I'm at before I make any poor decisions.

sorry for the loss was your manhood totaled in the accident too and replaced with a Vagina? :)

Nope, manhood is still intact. My pride took a hit though, it was my first accident so I was a little shook up about the fact that I just totaled my car.

Wow, awesome looking car. My mom is just starting her search for an 05+ cooper S, and that is the exact color combo I want to find for her. Mind sharing what you paid for it?

Oh, and you should bring that thing to an autocross... if you think you like driving it now, you have no idea...

What is wrong with owning a Mini Cooper with the way gas prices are?

well it gets a combined average of about 24 mpg. (nothing to write home about). Also must use 91 octane or better. For the price and perforamce in my eyes there are better choices.

Sorry not trying to take away from your purchase, its what you wanted and thats what matters.

Please explain the "manliness" factor involved in a Mazda3.

Eh, different strokes for different folks. If you think that by purchasing a Mini I lost my manhood then that's fine by me. I like the car, it's quick (not fast), fun to drive, and has a lot of nifty little features to keep me entertained. Also, I was able to average about 34-36 mpg on my way home from Cleveland. Since a large majority of the mileage accrued will be highway miles, I'm happy with it's performance.

Nice. I'm looking at all types of rides and drove the new 08 Turbo Clubman and loved it. Not fast, but quick and with paddle shifts, I was right at home. 6spds kept the car in the sweet spot most all the time. Especially in the burbs where I drove constantly.

I really like that color combo.

Car wasn't mine to choose, its my wife car. She picked it out when she traded in her Pro 5. month later we found out we were excepting triplets. I traded my truck in since it was it was closer to being paid off to get a minivan to haul kids in. Made no sense to get rid of a new car just so I could have something different. It will be gone next year.

anything else that needs cleared up?

My car > yours.

I have fun in my car everyday while you drive a Mazda3, blasting others' cars while your car lacks pretty much anything worth having.
