Mr. Jones
BTW, what exactly is the deal with the box section of those headers? Some kind of guide for cooling air? Air Cooled Porsches Some say, the best ever made.
Supplicium
I kept the GTI stock except for a catback exhaust. The R32 just has a drop-in K&N panel filter right now. I'm working with Corsa exhaust up here and trying to get into their R&D department and maybe get a free exhaust out of the deal. If not, I'll probably go coilover suspension as my next mod. get H&R ultra lows and a HR rear sway bar

HAOLE
I am curious what the cost of the build will be.
RSC17
I am curious what the cost of the build will be. The stage 2 kit was almost $6000. Hardware and getting the parts reconditioned was another $6000. We still have to purchase a stage 2 clutch and flywheel & also fix the 2nd gear synchro in the tranny. So hopefully we'll get this whole thing done in about $13,000.
RSC17
Baller! yeah probably won't be baller status till next year since all money besides car payments and insurance is going to school right now. I kind of put myself in a bind with having two cars at the same time. Plan was to sell the GTI for the R32 but that definitely didn't work out. RSC17
Nice project....You going to MWDF3? No, I don't have anytime with work, school, and working in the garage I wanted to go to H20 this year, but that looks like it is not going to work out either... RSC17
That is not as bad as I thought. Yeah, we were really happy to find out that the motor in this 911 had Nikasil cylinders instead of Alusil. This meaning that the cylinders were in perfect shape, not needing any reworking, saving us probably $3000. For reference, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikasil
SVT_Nick
Awesome build. I love old Porsche's. I look forward to seeing where this is going.
shm21284
Those rods look pretty beefy for a ~200 bhp car. Drysumped already, too. I like! Can't wait to see the updated pics. Oh, and I'll bet your heat works really well with the new setup.

Oh, and I'll bet your heat works really well with the new setup. basically these engines were the same as the ones used in the 930 regarding the heat, it ALWAYS worked well. the stock setup also had exchangers on them. Basically, you weren't ever cold in the car haha
RSC17
I wonder how hard it would be to swap my svx's H6 with that one, and whether an awd subaru tranny would mate up or not. Hmm. I have no idea but that would be a pretty radical swap! I know that the body is pretty bare when everything is out of it so probably with some good metalworking skills it maybe would be possible. RSC17
We received the correct rod bearings this past thursday and was able to finish putting the crank back together today. Have some pictures of the progress today plus some of the components cleaned up I'm still trying to get a parts list together so bare with me. http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii8/rickychipka/DSCN0088.jpg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii8/rickychipka/DSCN0089.jpg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii8/rickychipka/DSCN0090.jpg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii8/rickychipka/DSCN0091.jpg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii8/rickychipka/DSCN0102.jpg http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii8/rickychipka/DSCN0103.jpg
