Browning
Just bought this truck last week and one of the things that needs work is this damn door striker or whatever it's called? You can tell where some one tried to weld it but failed miserably. To add to the fail I pulled it out and straightened it with a couple of bungee cords and slopped on some jb weld. That worked but only for about 10 shuttings and is now moving back and forth http://img1.hugeup.com/f/07292008/02afe9558b1.JPG http://img1.hugeup.com/f/07292008/a35be09878.JPG http://img1.hugeup.com/f/07292008/b9af9a264620.JPG I know it's a mess but I couldn't pass this thing up. how would you go about repairing it? Browning
weld in a patch panel I know a few people who weld, but not sure if they can pull it off. Would it be hard cutting one from a donor/getting it back in the right spot?
Jelloman4571647545499
not at all. just find someone who is good.
94TanRanger
cut crap piece out, find donor car for same piece or just use a piece of sheet metal ( pron 16g), weld new piece in, gind welds, mud, sand mud, black spray paint, then drill hole for striker and bolt in. should work
2wheels4
Never actually replaced one, but unless someone has a better way I would mount a new one on steel plate, cut an appropriate sized hole in the panel, and weld it up. (with a bloody mig, no frickin' epoxy)
Browning
wonder if I can find a new replacement piece for it anywhere
94TanRanger
prob not unless you buy a new pillar piece from gm( but thats prob gonna be the whole cab corner). but if you find one in a junk yard and have a cordless sawzall you can cut the piece out you need and weld it back in. Browning
Junkyard down the road has a few s10's that they're about to haul away. I'll cruise down tomorrow and see what they want for a panel
Cordell
Why can't you get it where you want it and weld it from the back? Just a thought, the larger square backing plate might take a weld.
Browning
I dunno I suppose if I'm going to have it done it might as well be done right
