Any of you ever had to deal with this? v. door strike

Just bought this truck last week and one of the things that needs work is this damn door striker or whatever it's called? You can tell where some one tried to weld it but failed miserably. To add to the fail I pulled it out and straightened it with a couple of bungee cords and slopped on some jb weld. That worked but only for about 10 shuttings and is now moving back and forth

I know it's a mess but I couldn't pass this thing up. how would you go about repairing it?

Never actually replaced one, but unless someone has a better way I would mount a new one on steel plate, cut an appropriate sized hole in the panel, and weld it up. (with a bloody mig, no frickin' epoxy)
