Long Range Tactical Shooting Event - 1/11.

I don't think anyone is making a 6.5 specific lower. I just picked up 2 stag stripped lowers a few weeks back. One will go M4ish, the other will be long range, and maybe add a .450 bushy or .50 beowolf upper to that as well. I've really cut back on my shooting, but I'd like to do a bit more this year. Just not sure how much time/money I'm going to throw at it vs the track.

I would go with the 6.5 over the .450 or .50 beowolf

Wow.. So today was a blast. We shot targets ranging from 100 yards out to 1 mile... It was incredible. I will definitely be making many more trips back out there throughout the year as well as taking part in this years competitions out there. It was an absolute blast.. I will post pics tomorrow.. I am tired from being out in the 25 degree temps since 930 this morning. to give you an idea of what its like to shoot at those distances, 1 mile is right around 1760 yards and here is a video of people shooting at various distances out to 1600.

Some pictures from the event..

First. Here is the tactical range we were on and shooting at steel targets, 12 inches wide by 18 inches long at these distances. The mile target is a 12 inch circular steel plate

Nice pics. How was that 50 cal? Did you hit anything?

Ive shot bolt action 50's before and the semi auto barrett doesnt kick too bad at all to be honest. The semi auto action really absorbs allot of the energy.

As far as hitting things goes. I was hitting targets out to 1000 yards. I crono'd my rounds when I got there and had a drop chart printed up for the days conditions so it was pretty good. I didnt have enough elevation in my scope to get to 1150 yards. :(

It really depends on what your looking to spend and the options you want. Things to consider. The big ones are below.

What range do you want to be able to shoot out to and with what caliber rifle. (This is one of the biggest questions as it helps to answer how much magnification, elevation adjustment, and possible price options)

How much internal elevation adjustment does the scope have?

Do you want a variable power scope? If so, how much magnification do you want.

You can get a straight 10x or 20x scope of certain models fairly reasonable.

What is your price range. (Dont forget you will need to include a base and rings.)

Answer those questions and I can help a bit more.

You can get scopes from a few hundered dollars to a few thousand depending on what your looking for.

.223 Ar15....Probably no more than 400 yards I would think. Variable. Price doesn't really matter but i don't want to pay more than i need to. A scope i could grow with if i get a heavier caliber and want to reach out further. What power do guys use shooting out to 1 mile?

I shot it at 12x and 24x for the mile target. My 308 doesnt have the ability to reach to 1 mile but I could see the target fine to take a shot if I would have had a different gun.

I know you say price doesnt matter but give a price range your willing to spend. It really does matter, trust me, it makes a big difference as to your options.
