Guest fist302
I was in the same position as you at 19. I ended up getting a Ninja 250. It was a fun bike, i rode the hell out of it that year. Only problem was no power whatsoever, im talking like 8k rpm at highway speeds. I would say the ninja 500 would be perfect, plenty fast for a starter but still forgiving. All i can say is be careful, people really dont see you and its up to you to save your own ass and ride safe. I had my share of close calls that year. Im thinking about getting back into it this year and getting a 600. Good luck!
944s2
Don't ever let ANY of your friends ride your bike..... < even more important if they have never rode before and want to "try" it out.
Radio Flyer1647545514
The only friends that I would let ride it have more experience than I do, but they have their own bikes so...
Bahnstoermer1647545488
Yowsa. Start with a Harley. A huge one. Learn to stunt on that, then sportbikes will be easy.
kenny
Don't ever let ANY of your friends ride your bike..... < even more important if they have never rode before and want to "try" it out. Why? I trade bikes with friends all the time. I traded my R6 for a RC51 for a week.
Radio Flyer1647545514
Got my insurance rates. Surprised the shit out my agent with the rates too. 1k for full coverage. 300 for liability 400 for Comprehensive (Fire Theft, and Basic Liability) Thats on an 03 sv650s. Before he ran the rates he was thinking 2-4k for full coverage.
gillbot
Why not get an old 250 or so honda from craigslist for a few hundred to learn on?
Radio Flyer1647545514
SV650 is a nice starter bike. I plan on riding on the highway to and from school so a 250 is not going to cut it.
Radio Flyer1647545514
Is Iron Pony overpriced on gear? I want to go and get some gloves and a helmet before the MSF and I was planning on going today. Should I go there and get fitted and buy online, or should I just purchase from the Pony? kenny
I hate shopping there because they never have anything I need in stock. I tried to buy plugs there to be told they only had three in stock. Three. I went to NAPA and got them that day, for less money. Their most famous line: "we'll have it Tuesday". Radio Flyer1647545514
Tuesday is today. So is their gear overpriced, or will I be paying the same, if not close to it if I buy there compared to other places. I'm just looking to get a good lid and gloves. I'm going to go with 400. kenny
I bought my current helmet there, you should be fine. I had to wait two weeks for the tinted visor, though. Bastards.

Radio Flyer1647545514
Ended up liking the Bell Star. One was priced at 350 but it was to big. I need a Small in a Bell and the dude would not match the price. Only difference was the color. Silver vs Black. Could not believe that was a huge deal for them. EDIT* Grabbed it for 300 online w/ a design. You would think the helmets with designs would cost more. kinkinhood
It may have also been one had been sitting on the floor for a year while the other only arrived 2 weeks ago. I've found their prices to tend to not be too bad. I've tended to go there for my maintenance items

Radio Flyer1647545514
Thanks. I will definitely post pics. It's a bit more than what I wanted to spend but with my tax return and the cash that I saved up already I'm not really worried about it. Got another job to get this thing payed off much faster too so... I'm hoping it's mine, and I can get in on some cruises come spring time!
