Police Scanners

Does anyone on here use them in their homes on a regular basis just because it's interesting?

I have been reading up on them and I understand that it is perfectly legal to have one in your home, but a amateur radio permit may be needed to transport one in your car, or have one on in the car. I am more interested to listen in while I am at home. I wouldn't think to use one on the road for the wrong reasons....

Do you need a permit in Ohio to listen to one in the car?

I just want to have an idea of what the laws say so that I don't get screwed on something I didn't know and get some feedback on how people like them.
