Gun Training Guidance

My wife and I are interested in getting some guns for personal and home protection. I have been reading different threads and other forums. I have a few things in mind, but I am not set on anything yet. I ultimately visualize a handgun for myself, another handgun for my wife, and a shotgun. I plan for the handguns to use the same ammo. At this point perhaps I will stay away from gun recommendations.

It sounds like the next step is to get some instruction and guidance. Short of paying for a training class, I was wondering if anyone on here would be willing to help us out. We are looking for someone close to a true instructor as possible. Perhaps some of you on here are instructors? I realize everyone is busy these days, time is money too , but I figured this would be the best place to ask for some help. We are located in Pickerington.

If everyone agrees that official classes are what we should do, that’s fine. Please post recommendations.

I came across these:

I would suggest taking anyone of the CCW course's at the places you mentioned (i would go to Blackwing though). Even if your just looking for general gun handling skills and training you'll get that in a CCW course as well as training how to propering clean and shoot your weapon. And in the end you'll be eligible for your CCW permit. Even if you never carry or dont want to at least you'll have the option along with the training. But if your just looking for some general guidance I'd take Greg up on his offer.

When the weather gets warmer I want to take a defensive shotgun class at Blackwing. Yes shotguns are easy to load and shoot but I grew up in NY where owning guns in a big no no so my family was never gun friendly.

I only spoke to Greg for a couple minutes when I bought my last pistol at Blackwing. In those minuted I could tell he really knew his stuff and I would not hesitate to take him up on his offer.
