Battery problem...or something?

Scott, when used correctly, the Midtronics style testers can be pretty good. Unfortunately, they do not get the job done on anything more than a quick test.

I would use a load test when there is a known issue in the starting/charging system.

I would use a small tester for general PMA stuff.

This is true. I would take the OTC Minuteman over that every time though.

The Midtronics stuff that most people use is stupid expensive anyway.

Lol, hey I know a good tool when I see it.

Here, I'll rep OTC. OTC number 3131AGM is a minuteman on a cart.

mac stuff = otc relabeled with red sticker

Cornhole (Cornwell) gives me the best deals on otc stuff it seems. and my Makita set.

I agree that those small testers are great for PMAs, but too many people are trying to replace the old VAT 40 type testers with them. One of the good things Sears did was require testing with a load tester in order to condemn anything other then a battery. Then you've got these jackasses I work with at NTB who think they are a full service shop but have no VAT 40 type of machine, makes alot of sense for a company with "battery" in it's name.
