zeitgeist57
I bit the bullet and swapped out the starter motor for a new one on my '82 Chevy C20 6.2L diesel...$240 ouch. It was pulling off-the charts amperage when tested, and it was sapping juice from both batteries even with the ignition key removed... Well, now that that's fixed...I was thinking about getting an extra gear out of it if possible. It's got a strong running 3L80 (TH400), but I'd love to have another gear for cheap. I recently read that the non-electronic 4L80 (TH400-R2) is essentially the same tranny with an overdrive, but despite good Google skills I don't see too many sources of info as to whether this is a good swap or not, or if it's even doable. In a perfect world, I could score the tranny for cheap, not have to swap out driveshafts, crossmembers, or speedo cables, and it would bolt to my 6.2L diesel with no adapter plate. BTW, my truck is 2WD. Any experience/recommendations/info sources would be helpful for my research...
