I will have a tent, not a pop up or RV, I’d like to sort of ruff it. Also if there is a place to Canoe or do other things while I camp that that would be a plus and if it’s with in an hour or 2 drive from Columbus that would be nice too. Any suggestions?

AEP Recreation Land (Formerly Ohio Power)

I tent camp there often. It's pretty well maintained and if you don't go on a holiday you can usually get some decent sites not right on top of other people. I hate parking lot camping (Alum Creek, etc).

Fuck camping anywhere in ohio. I have grown up camping all over Ohio, KY, and Tenn. My favorite place of them all is Cave Run Lake KY. National park, great lake, great fishing, BEST campsites you will ever find with plenty of shade and privacy in the trees and some sites are only 25 yards from the water. I can get there towing a boat in under 4 hours so it isnt too far away. I choose to go to Cave Run and camp rather than staying on the houseboat in Tenn and I have been going there for over 20 years now.

Your family has a houseboat in Tenn? What lake?

I actually broke out the old Boy Scout hand book. I haven't been camping since I was a kid (10-12 years old). I'm actually looking forward to it. My G/Fs family "Camps" but they have huge RV's and you have neighbors, to me, that's not camoing. Mohican does looks nice.

Great thread, I'm curious to find some sweet places to camp too. John Bryan State Park near Dayton/Yellow Springs is pretty nice and seems like what you'd be looking for. I haven't been there in years though. I'd like to try somewhere else for a change
