NEW PRICE - $1,700

*** Correction - Car is 1997. It was previously posted as a 1994. My bad! ****

THE CAR: 1997 Geo Prism LSi. Sister car to the Toyota Corolla of the same generation. Black with a light metallic in it. LSi model with all options. Taupe leather interior. Ice cold A/C, ABS brakes, PW, PL, PS, PB, cruise, power sunroof, AM/FM CD Cassette. Excellent gas mileage; low 30's around town and high 30's on the highway (or so Dad says!).

THE HISTORY: Mom and Dad bought this in 1997 or so when it had about 24,000 miles on it. It has been their sole car for quite some time and served them well. No significant accidents. One accident in 1999 or so where another car scraped the drivers side all the way down which required replacement / repaint of sheet metal, but no structural work. Expertly maintained by The Northend Wrench. Has not required any significant mechanical work, just the normal expendables (oil, brakes, tires, battery, etc.).

THE GOOD: Drives well, straight and true. Quiet, NO RATTLES OR SQUEAKS even on bumpy roads which is amazing for the age and miles. Everything works properly. Needs nothing mechanically. Tires, battery, brakes all a year or so old. Looks very good (just washed and waxed it, and cleaned the interior) and the interior is in good shape also.

THE NON-GOOD: Some oil leaks developing. Not bad; you might want to address a couple of the easy ones (valve cover gasket, a power steering hose). Drivers and Passengers seat cushions feel the 195,000 miles, but are not intolerable by any means. Small dent on LF fender on corner by corner light. Surprisingly few dings and scratches elsewhere. Tear in passenger seat back bolster.

SUMMARY: This has been a great car for Mom and Dad. This would be an excellent daily driver to keep the miles off of your nice car, a good car for the teenage kids or student, or an ideal winter car.

PRICE: $1,900 on CL (KBB price). However, will be extra flexible with CR members. No trades (well, maybe a motorcycle but my wife would kill me!)

CONTACT: Via email rgrunenwald at columbus dot rr dot com. I am around today (May 30) but out of town most of tomorrow (May 31).

A/C works fine. Ice cold.

As far as oil usage, it is not so much "usage" as "leakage". About 1/2 quart between changes. From what I can tell, a lot of this is around gaskets and seals easy to fix (valve cover, distributor).

It really is a clean car. Anybody would be happy with it.

Never smoked in. Interior is very clean, especially considering it is a 12 year old car. Unfortunately, no more pics as my digital camera is acting up. I would say the interior is very good; no issues except for the tear on the passenger seat bolster as mentioned previously.
