2008 Mustang GT

Normally I dont post too much of what is going on in the shop. I generally feel that if the customer wants to share their experience then that is up to them. Up till now, that has kept us plenty busy. This car belongs to my dad however so I thought that I would share a little of what we can do in the shop.

It is a 2008 Mustang GT. It started life out looking like this.

Anyone that knows me or my family will tell you that stock just does not work for us. The car came straight off the lot and into the shop. After a few days worth of work, it came out looking like this.

It spent the last year looking that way while we decided on which blower we wanted to run on the car. While we were down at Bristol Jack Roush was kind enough to sign the dash of the car even though it is not an actual "Roush" car and under the hood still looked like this.

After Jack signed the dash, we pretty much knew which blower we were going to go with. We ended up with the new 2.3 TVS. As well as a bunch of other goodies.

Out of the gate the TVS is pullied for around 14 lbs of boost. That is more than I really wanted to put to the car so we opted for a 25 % underdriven crank pulley to drop boost levels.

The underdrive pulley dropped the boost levels a little further than I was really hoping for. We ended up with an average of about 6lbs of boost and a peak of 7 lbs at 6k. In my opinion the power numbers are very impressive given the boost levels. The car ended up making 426 hp/ 383 tq. For comparison a M90 on 6 lbs shows around 360-370 hp on our dyno, so for the boost level the numbers are good.

While I am happy with the numbers the car is making on the boost levels we are seeing, I am not happy with the total power of the car. The next step is to have a custom upper pulley made to bring us closer to the 10 lb mark on the boost guage. Hopefully I can get that done before dragway 42.

Overall, I am very pleased with the blower. It is a very tight fit under the hood but really fills out the engine compartment quite nicely. The blower is also very, very quiet which I like. (The older I get the quieter I like things!) The car drives really nicely and is very crisp. The torque is great and it just keeps pulling. All in all it is a really fun street car. I cant wait to up the boost and have some real fun with it.

it looks really good and your set-up is real nice. if your wanting more power though why don't you just take off the underdrive pully so the blower can boost what its supposed to?

...I wouldn't increase the boost without building that motor.

But, not my car!

and thats the nice thing about brady and his work..he wont let you push it too far! he is always on the safe side,so you can enjoy the power for way longer!

nice build brady..love it.

My guess is the engine isn't built for 14lbs (yet)?

I want to limit the car to around 480 hp at the wheels. About 500 at the wheels is the unwritten limit on the 3 valves. 14 lbs is way too much so we took the more conservative approach. It is easier to deal with a car by creeping boost up than to start with it overboosted.

The possibility to build the motor later is there. For now it is just a fun street driven car.

I saw that car at Doc's as well. You should have had the hood popped with all those goodies underneath.

I just finished it this week. The motor was still stock at Doc's. I guess at that time you could say it was all show and no go!

Go to pickups plus and sit in their display one. The interior is actually really nice, I'd take one as a daily..

Oh, I've sat in them before, I'm just more of a fan of the 4th gen Stangs. I would still rock one though :bangbang:

Thanks for the test drive the other night, Brady. That car is sick. It felt like a stock GT500. The thing that really impressed me was the streetability of this car. It was loud when you wanted and smooth when you needed it.

I love the whine of a blower, but this thing was dead quiet. Perfect sleeper.

Nice work. :)

Here is the comparison of the blower to stock in numbers verses graph form.

Here is a good side by side comparison of what the TVS is capable versus the M90 at comparable boost levels.

I spoke with Rich from Metco this morning. They have not actually tried to pulley a 3valve car yet but says he has a 2.6 upper on the shelf that they are sure will work on the blower. They were just waiting on a car to come in to use it on. The wait is over cause its on its way here. Hopefully early next week we can have the boost turned up a bit!!:D

Hey Scott and Brady...Me and Gabe (Sic Shelby) ran into the guy with the black Shelby with red stripes after Doc's party. Just wanted to let you know he had a lot of good things to say about you guys. CJ

Thanks a ton! Dave is a good guy, we had a great time working together.

Car looks great Brady. Is this the vehicle that you will be bringing to the CR track day next weekend?

Rich

Im planning on it. I just ordered the smaller pulley for it today. I am hoping I can get it on in time but if not oh well. Either way I will be out there for the day.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well, I finally was able to get back on this car and get the upper/lower pulley combination figured out to give me exactly what I was looking for.

Before/After 3.0 upper vs 2.6 upper
