HAOLE
Clarett Asks Governor For Pardon Thursday, June 18, 2009 1:06 PM COLUMBUS, Ohio — Former Ohio State tailback Maurice Clarett, who is serving a prison sentence, recently requested Gov. Ted Strickland to pardon him, 10TV News reported. Clarett, 25, who has been imprisoned since 2006, is not scheduled to be released until Feb. 3, 2014 from the Toledo Correctional Institution after he pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery and carrying a concealed weapon. On Thursday, Franklin County prosecutor Ron O'Brien's office released a letter written to Strickland that opposed the pardon because Clarett "is not such an extraordinary case of merit or injustice that the power of Executive clemency should be recommended or exercised." Clarett was the starting tailback on Ohio State's 2002 football team that went undefeated and won the national championship. He never played a game for the Buckeyes after that game. He was a third-round draft choice by the Denver Broncos in 2005 but never played a game. On Jan. 1, 2006, Clarett was charged with aggravated robbery after police said he flashed a gun at people outside a bar and robbed them of a cell phone. Then, on Aug. 9, Clarett was arrested after a chase when police said that they tried to stop him for a traffic violation. O'Brien's office said that Clarett had an AK-47 weapon with 35 live rounds in the magazine and three pistols in his vehicle. He was wearing a bulletproof vest. Investigators also found an open bottle of Grey Goose vodka and a hatchet. He was arrested about one mile away from the house of the robbery victims. Clarett's request to Strickland mentioned that he intends to become a motivational speaker and seek return to either Arena or Canadian professional football. Casper
Embarrass the entire state, then ask for a pardon? LOL
Avenger1647545502
Embarrass the entire state, then ask for a pardon? LOL Okay, that may be a little harsh. In the greater scheme of things, owning an AK with a cheap thumb-hole stock isn't really all that bad. Oh wait, you mean the getting arrested thing? I thought he played for the Buckeyes, isn't that sort of EXPECTED?
