I have been out of racing for a few years and decided to try and teach my sons some skills while creating some time together with them. It all came to a head a few weeks ago when I asked my 13 year old son to go grab me a pair of channel locks and he brought back a crescent wrench and on his 2nd try he brought me a pair of wire cutters. Mind you this kid spent his entire life in race car shops, falling asleep on creepers and hanging out with the guys all night long. Heck he went IHRA pro Stock and Top Sportsman racing with me for two years. I guess I didnt know that he was never really paying much attention. So here we go, 2 of my three boys are really excited about this, the 13 and 6 year olds while the 10 year old is more interested in xbox. He may very well hate me after this summer and winter but hopefully I can teach them something. Aaron Posted July 31, 2009 Report Share Posted July 31, 2009 Should be a good time. Wish my dad was into cars more when I was growing up. I got him back into cars the closer I got to driving age. A father son project would have been awesome. Still thinking about a project car that he and I could work on when I graduate. He said he always wanted to drive a car with 500+hp. My dad did the same for me back when I was 4-5 when he started his Packard project. They'll thank and be grateful for this opportunity they're getting until the day they die. Working on a car with your dad is one of the coolest feelings one can experience. Good luck with it, can't wait to see what becomes of it. My 4 year old has been helping me since he was 2 and he loves it, he finds great appreciation in helping and at the end of the day we put away the tools and he gets me a beer without me asking. We still have to get the engine compartment stripped down and then it is off to get a 10 point C/M cage. I need to find a front end and ground effects from a 91 or 92 Z28 while its off getting the cage. Its going straight to body and paint when it comes back. Im making them do all of this with hand tools .
