Guest tbutera2112
just heard on the radio that candles emit benzine and cause cancer...i looked it up online and its kinda hinting at the same thing, but they use terms that i dont understand....are candles unsafe to burn? i have a candle that i burn in my room to keep it smelling nice, would i be better off with one of those candle warmers or with incense or just getting a spray can of oust air freshener or something? my room is in the basement so it gets kinda stuffed up if i dont have something down here

Skinner
you'll be fine if you wipe down your entire room with bleach once a week ( it kills the benzine)

zeitgeist57
Your stank ass room probably causes cancer too. Get some fresh air, or go with the candles. Benzine, or methane from your ass...toss up.

Burn the damn candle every once and awhile and if you're worried, crack a window. ***ADVISORY*** I WILL recommend that you do not purchase or use gel candles. You know the ones that have air bubbles in them? (See example below.) There was a rumor for some time that they blow up. I can tell you from experience, a ruined tv and carpet (and almost the loss of an apt and dog) that they DO blow up. There are different kinds of gel candles. All of them involve air pockets. This example has very small ones, some have very large air pockets. It is my belief that this is the candles weakness and heating these pockets is what could cause the explosions. http://howtostartacandlemakingbusiness.com/images/make-gel-candles.jpg

Most people don't realize that you're supposed to take care of your candle. Trim the wick before the first burn, and then after each subsequent burn. Also a candle that size shouldn't be burned for more than 4 hours at a time, also random burn times (an hour here, two hours there) can lead to uneven consumption of the wax, or in this case gel. This can lead to the wick becoming off-center, which can cause many more problems over the life of the candle.
zeitgeist57
Forget the candles...just take up smoking. I heard that smoking is a great way to avoid getting any sort of cancer.

I just have this cyclical vision of a candle exploding and shooting scolding hot wax all over your dog, its like a porno gone bad.
