Pretty much everything is out of the 88's engine aby and it needs sprayed. I was reading the "how to clean an engine bay" thread and I will probably clean with purple power and a power washer. However, once Ic lean it whats the best way to paint this biotch so it looks nice and doesnt scratch so easy.

I was told POR15 but I would like to get some other opinions.

I've had good luck so far having put a couple coats of high temp engine paint in semi-gloss black. It's easy to touch up and was cheap, other then me scratching it I've had no problems. I've used POR15 for other things, and while its a good product, I've had it scratch off just the same. To me it was worth just doing something that could easily be fixed and cheap.

I would wash it down get some good cleaner then go over it with a scuff pad to lightly scuff it so the paint will stick well but I would probably paint it underhood engine black I think they sell it at advance in a silver can, or you could always base coat clear coat it

This is what I did

I used purple power with a power washer made sure all the big stuff was off and clean. after it was clean I used DAWN dish soap to and washed the engine bay several time, stuff cuts anything away. I had an issue with a battery tray that rusted, so I sandblasted and cut and re welded metal. After fixing small issues I re washed with dawn again. I use metal steel wool, small scotch bright pads and several diff sand papers. This is what takes the most time is making sure you scuff up everything. After the engine bay was complete I Washed with DAWN again. My first step was to seal the engine bay. I use a DuPont sealer/ primer

After it was sealed and baked on, I went over all the primer with steel wool and wet sanded a lot of the bigger areas. After I made sure everything was glass smooth I washed it again with dawn and let to dry.

After going to the paint store and searching I found my color.

I prepped the engine bay, and made sure everything was aired off and the I tacked everything off.

I have prior work history with painting but by no means am I some great painter, I really feel its all in the detail and prep work. You do not have to have someone do this, its very simple all the directions are on the paint cans and its just simple to mix. IMO do not make your engine bay some redneck autozone paint do it right the first time and you will be glad you did it. If you need help I am more then willing to help, I have paint gun's . I have a sata primer gun and a nice sata jet base and clear gun.
