Cordell
What a fucking waste. I don't care how many people like BMWs, they are fucking overpriced imported crap. Wait until you have to fix it. The only way I'd own one is if it was new with their warranty and maintence package that comes with them, and even then I don't like them. There's my opinion, so break out the midol comments pusscake.

Why people love these things always baffles me, I just don't get it, always struck me as a status car. Hope you get what you want, but I'd rather have your truck. wagner
Keep the truck my buddy had a 325 and after helping to work on that thing I wanted to set it on fire and so did he. The car looks great, can run great, BUT if something does go wrong because it is a BMW you can get rape choked on parts. Just my expereince with them. The cars can handle like a dream and have nice lines but the expense of parts keeps me away. Your truck is pootie tang pimp with the rims keep that. CRed05
*Enter German car nutswinger #1* Nothing beats a German car in my opinion. Engineered, designed and built a lot better than any other nation's car. Since parts are more complex and someone actually took time to engineer the parts, they are typically going to cost you a bit more than a piece of bubblegum and twine that others may call a suspension. For that same reason you are going to have to maintain it a little better than using cheap oil and only changing it every 3 years or so. Just like anything, if you maintain it right, it will last you forever. (Besides older hondas because they will rust away and theres nothing you can do about that). You have to realize that a 3-series, A4, C-class is Europe's Taurus, Accord etc, but when put next to any of those, they look like luxury sport cars when in reality they are just at the bottom. So I think that speaks novels right there. Now I do think that typically BMW's are overpriced in the used car market, because they are a status car. I think you will love a BMW if you find one that has been properly taken care of, and if you continue to properly take care of it. I've worked on American cars, lots of japanese cars and of course German cars. Out of all of them, the German cars are A LOT easier to work on because everything is put together in a logical manner. Nothing was an afterthought as it sometimes seems with other brands. Personally I would take an A4 over a 3-series because of a)AWD FTW b) Because Audi's dont have that status that BMW has, you can get them for cheaper, and maintenance and parts are cheaper too from what I've noticed. Reason not to get an A4: K03 turbos like to blow. Just my opinion, hope it helps you somewhat.

In which case.. 325i = sedan 325ci = coupe/convertible 325ix = AWD (I believe at this time only their sedans were AWD)

I didnt look at the link but since you said 325ci I'm guessing it's the previous generation of 3 series. In which case.. 325i = sedan 325ci = coupe/convertible 325ix = AWD (I believe at this time only their sedans were AWD) its a 2002 coupe...thanks

Same way you feel about Audi's I feel about BMW's. So personally I would never pay $10k for a 325 when I can get a 00-02 S4 for the same price if I look hard enough. But if thats what they typically go for, it looks like a clean car, the M3 wheels are nice, he claims that its been properly maintained...looks pretty good. I would go test drive it, make sure the transmission feels solid, the suspension feels good, basically just look at it like you would any other car, but look at the maintenance records and also you can tell a lot from the owner. If hes an older guy with some money its probably a safe bet. You dont want some young BMW fanboi asshat who didnt take care of it, he just wanted to get all the fly honiez. Someone on here knows more about them than me, so I know they will chime in sooner or later.
Smokey
as mentioned, the c=coupe. The e46 began in 99. You're going to want to know some type of maintenance history, and likely it'd be worth doing a PPI at a place like Auto Assets. Major things to look for are if the radiator and waterpump were replaced before. If not, then expect to do them. It's a timing chain. Overall they're a very enjoyable car to drive, and can be a fun DD that gets decent mileage (great compared to your truck). I'd recommending shooting over to http://www.bimmerforums.com and reading up on some of the FAQs they have there if you're seriously interested. AudiOn19s
First...I agree with alot of what chris said although my personal preference between a 3 series and an A4 as a daily would be a 325 if I had to do it all over again. Go figure I daily an A4 though. My personal experience is that the 325 would require less maintenance. We had an '02 325ci for a few years and it was an outstanding car. Really the biggest maintenance conern at that car's age is suspension bushings. If they haven't been done then expect to need to do them. They're not difficult or expensive to do though. More labor than parts costs. Car has a timing chain and motors are relatively maintenance free. The only real thing to watch out for was BMW's 15K mile suggested oil change interval. They did this because they cover all service under the warranty period for the car and it saves them in maintenance costs. If someone believed that crap and didn't do changes inbetween there have been known sludge issues and camshaft problems. If it's got documented service history for oil changes and other fluids I say go for it. That motor has been around in their line-up since '88 and there are LOTS of examples of it still running strong with >200k miles on them. They're not the quickest car in the world but you'd never know they are only rated at 187hp when driving one. Great torque and still reasonable performance (for a daily) to boot. iwashmycar
i agree with the others to go take a look at it. I've always enjoyed the fit and finish of a bimmer compared to most cars. and its a lot of fun having a car that turns good! Granted my car doesnt have a BMW emblem on it, and yeah its a whole different car in lots of ways (usually a bit simpler), I have no fear of working on it and modding it. again, go drive it, look it over. Id never count it out soley based on what we say on here...
