FormulaMatt
I need to have my fireplace which is currently a gas fireplace put back to a wood burning. It was originally a wood burning when the house was built but was later converted over. I need someone to at least cap the gas line, I'm not sure what else is needed though. Post here or send me a PM. Thanks.
smokin5s
Call Ray Hughes, he's in my plumber post in the consumer reviews section... he was telling me last night that he works on gas lines also.

wnaplay1647545503
Why dont you just not turn the gas on?
FormulaMatt
I thought of that, but it has that gas burner/fake log setup in there and I'm not sure if its safe to put burning wood on it.
wnaplay1647545503
Well is your fireplace a pre made unit as in it has the gas insert with its own pre manufactured metal chimney, or was it a traditional masonary chimney with a gas insert added? Richard Cranium
If it was originally a wood burning fire place I would look at leaving the gas connected. Maybe replace the burner and use the gas to get your fires going. No more kindling, paper, etc....
wnaplay1647545503
Exactly. A pre made unit cannot usually be done that way without risk. Our first fireplace was a masonary unit the previous owner added a gas insert. We removed it and just sparked it with gas, and then just turned gas off when it was lit. A premade unit will definately need the line capped and maybe even the chimney reworked.
