SPL_Josh
Who has compete in car audio competitions? Meca and dB drag are in the midwest area. Or just are into car audio, installing, and building? Here's the latest box i'm working on. Its 4 Tang Band Neo 8s, on 600wrms. around 3 cubes with 30square inches of port tuned to 30hz. Its a smaller port than i would use but it should keeps the woofers from over excursion and keep even pressure (being that its a weird designs and would have uneven backpressure) O and my 1 8 on 100wrms probably plays lower than everyones 10/12s:Popcorn: i've built hundreds of boxes, i can post more pics if anyone want to see. Home audio/car audio. If anyone is impressed by a prefab box you wouldnt believe what subs can do if the box is specifically built for the sub Using dowel rods for cutout placement http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq206/rawlins1087/shawns_8s.jpg First layer of glass http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq206/rawlins1087/shawns_8s_2.jpg Testing sub fit, and starting mud- after 7 layers of glass http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq206/rawlins1087/shawns_8s_3.jpg as of right now the box is done with mud and is primered. Its getting custom painted and graphics by my bodyshop guy (its his box) its 1:30 and i cant sleep so i will bug you all with this:rolleyes:
wnaplay1647545503
Looking good. I competed back when I was a teenager. Won a few trophies until my blazer was stolen and found burning down by the scioto river. Are you leaving the dowels in place? Afraid they will break with pressure and distort something? SPL_Josh
1 18" Fi BTL. (bad mofo) magnet is 11.25 inches in diameter. Rms is 2000, with many people putting 3-4kwatts on em this setup was off a 2200wrms amp. 2 sealed group d batteries. box was around 5.8 cubic feet net with around 70 square inches of port area. tuned to 35 hertz This box design set a record in a texas comp Usaci organization SB3---he was 9dB louder against his competitor...that is huge difference 3dB sounds like "double" had min. space to work with so it was only 3/4 inches thick, but had ALOT of bracing. (baffle was 1.5 inches thick) http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq206/rawlins1087/btl3.jpg http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq206/rawlins1087/btl.jpg http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq206/rawlins1087/btl2.jpg entire box was resin'd to help make the mdf more dense and smooth air flow. also on the outside to protect and help the line-x stick http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq206/rawlins1087/btl4.jpg http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq206/rawlins1087/btl5.jpg this is 3/4" allthread very strong http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq206/rawlins1087/btl6.jpg baffle is on http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq206/rawlins1087/btl7.jpg the guy i built it for desided to paint flames on it...wtf? http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq206/rawlins1087/btl_flames.jpg installed in hhr http://i448.photobucket.com/albums/qq206/rawlins1087/btl_hhr.jpg

El Karacho1647545492
thats a pretty cool build. also + rep for being a good poster and including lots of pics. however, that flame job is utterly terrible (i know you didnt do it). and is that in an HHR? why would you block your entire rear view for 1 sub. edit: i just realized, that guy is one of those people who rolls up to you at a stoplight rattling the fuck out of his license plate and thinks you're impressed cuz you're laughing at him. SPL_Josh
Is this for the lightning? nope its going in a suv Ahahah, is that Jacob's HHR? I wondered why the fuck he bought one of those... yep, thats jacob's I just don't get it. Maybe I'm getting old. It would seem annoying to only hear the bass track. All bass=fail. My build will be geared toward sound quality. Just really loud. Planning on putting 3 speakers with 1 tweeter in each pillar, two 6.5s in the doors and possible more built into the wall if needed
iwishiwascool
I get appreciating music at a decent dB, hell, I'm in the business of audio components that cost more than most people's cars. I have $24,000 speakers sitting behind me right now. But at what point does it become more about people down the block being able to hear your music vs. actually appreciating it? I build for competitions, and rarely bump in high public areas (distrubing the peace) Now alot of people i build enclosures for are the opposite
wnaplay1647545503
Wheres the second 1/2 of the boxes? Aesthetics.
SPL_Josh
i never carpet my personal enclosures because i can setups sooo often, but line-x is the best i've found. usually just resin and paint the enclosure (mdf is very dense and porous so you need a sealer before paint) or carpet it. everything i build in the future will have line-x, or its home theater a nice paint job or laminates (sp???) Mark1647545493
I like your 4-8" box. I'm a big fan of 8" subs. I use a kicker 8 in a Bazooka tube and it makes my truck sound great. Not over powering and will still hit the low stuff at a moderate level. I worked for Hammond Electronics on Main St. in Whitehall back in the late 80's early 90's and got into competing then. Built a few different competition cars but never won anything major. Hell, back then band pass boxes were just getting popular and no one used fiberglass unless you was building a factory rep vehicle. At a Columbus Car audio show in 1990 me and my buddy got in good with the Orion rep and he took us out that night in the Orion van. We took that thing all over Columbus then to Lancaster. It was fun, but my ears are still paying for it today. Damn, I feel old now.....
