Mike Ward Racing
Ok, here’s the first in a series of what’s to come. I would like to periodically highlight and post some of the more interesting projects and builds we have going on at our shop. I believe that some CR members are unaware of the volume of projects that we have completed and the depth and scope of the builds we most often get. This, I believe, is largely because most of our customers historically haven’t been CR members. For the mod motor mustang crowd, I thought you might be interested in some of the high end builds we do. This post contains photos of a projected 1000-1100 hp modular engine we are currently building. Starting with a Teksid aluminum block with billet main caps as the foundation. http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb192/mxward1/024.jpg Next, a pair of hand ported and polished 03 cobra heads that flow 310/255. I know this is not the popular thing these days with all the CNC stuff out there, but the cost is only $1800 by hand versus $3200 for CNC ones that flow the same. http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb192/mxward1/007-1.jpg http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb192/mxward1/003-2.jpg Now comes the rotating assembly rated to handle this build http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb192/mxward1/010-1.jpg To top this monster off, we have a one of a kind sheetmetal intake designed and built for Mike Ward Racing by Logan Motorsports, near Chicago IL. A leader in mod motor racing intakes. http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb192/mxward1/008-1.jpg We hold it all together with some of the best rings, bearings, head studs and main studs available. http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb192/mxward1/011-1.jpg While you can buy more expensive aftermaket cams, we haven’t found anything that’s makes more power than Ford GT cams. So that’s what we continue use in almost all of our boosted builds. http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb192/mxward1/014-1.jpg Innovators West dampers are not only SFI approved but look great on the front of a big budget build like this. http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb192/mxward1/026.jpg Now for the fun part, the boost is provided by Prochargers largest “street supercharger” for an 03/04 cobra, a F1A cog belt driven bad boy set up to operate at approx 24lbs. http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb192/mxward1/016-2.jpg http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb192/mxward1/017-1.jpg I should have it all blueprinted and assembled in a couple weeks. Stay tuned for more updates as we strive to meet our target of 1100hp with this combination.

Mike Ward Racing
Looks good Mike, what rods are those? They are the good eagle ones. I was a little skepticle at first about using them, because they are smaller than the manley ones I normally use, but after discussing their intended application with eagle and Livernois Motorsports engine development guy, I decided to give them a try. Eagle made me a smoking deal on a couple of sets and we put them in a couple other engines that we did and haven't had any breakage. They are rated to 1500hp I believe. You talk with Mike at livernois? If so keep talking with him if you want to be the fastest or on the leading edge. Those gents have it down, Millens car is sick! No worries about the props, you have to call it how you see it, good work is good work, and its not to often found!

One of the sharpest guys I've met on what happens on the inside of a engine. He works side by side with engineers from Mahle, Diamond, and Ford. I pick his brain every chance I get. He gave me all the inside information on how and where to port modular heads to get the best results. I've learned a ton from them.
jevans
Hey Mike, Looks like ya let the cat out of the bag with this bad boy, what a motor. Could ya hurry up and get it finished already, I've got the perfect test car to slide it down in. You know I want to do a Mod Motor, I guess this old thing will do... A Mod Motor in a foxbody is just sexy. Especially, something as nice as your car. I say let's do it.
dover
looks good what are the benefits of porting the 03/04 heads? I was just going to leave mine unchanged? My goal is 1K on some good gas.

My goal is 1K on some good gas. I always chuckle when I get that question. You shouldn't have to be around high performance cars for long to realize that porting any head on any vehicle as long as the port work is done correctly yeilds horsepower. Anyone that tells you differently doesn't quite understand how internal combustion engines work.
