evan9381 Posted November 5, 2009 Report Share Posted November 5, 2009 so last week a friend was here, and we pulled the HDMI cord from my blu-ray and hooked it up to my laptop to download a couple shows from HULU. we did the "duplicate screen", and it was just fine. exact display as on my laptop showed up on my 60" tv. fast forward to today...ordered a 25' HDMI so i can sit on my couch and run it to my TV. hook it up, and its 100% different. if i do "duplicate screen", on my TV, i get a image of the laptop display that is about 2/3 or so the size of the TV. if i do "projector only" (so my laptop screen is blank), i get a large display on my tv, but its about 10% too big, so it cuts off my start bar at the bottom, a bit of the top, and both sides, to where i can see my icons on the left column so im trying to figure out why i cant just get a straight duplicate image...any ideas? i didnt do anything to change the resolution since he was out friday. If it losses signal it would not do what he's talking about. It's a digital/compressed/encoded signal so it will look pixelated, then just disappear all together. Just like you see on your cable box sometimes (if you have digital cable). The HDMI input you are currently using for your Bluray may be the 'computer' input. This has an extra chip on it which can accept a wider range of resolutions (and be able to scale them to the native resolution of your TV). Either use the laptop on that input, or set the output of laptop to 1920x1080 (i.e. 1080p) or whatever the resolution of your TV is. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

From an electrical/protocol standpoint the digital video on DVI and HDMI are exactly the same. That's why there can be relatively inexpensive cables because it's just wires with different connectors on either end. See my previous post about the 'computer' input, it's more than likely a resolution issue. By 'DVI' input, you are probably talking what is typically called the 'PC' input on the TV because PC's typically use DVI for digital video (historically, now starting to have HDMI also as more people use their PC's in the living room) http://www.bluejeanscable.com/articles/index.htm Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Personally I will order from Blue Jeans/Tartan every day because I want high quality cables and the guy who owns/runs it is a real stand-up guy. I think they claim they are the only place you can buy a 100% made in the US cable. evan9381 Posted November 6, 2009 Author Report Share Posted November 6, 2009 i tried messing with the TV settings and got nothing and the cable was like 18.99 + like $4-$5 for shipping. i put in my order sunday and had it tuesday http://www.firefold.com this is like the 2nd or 3rd order ive placed with them. last time i bought the cable for my bluray, 6' for like $5.50 and 2 6' smaller guage wires for a guy at work that were like 1.49 each. evan9381 Posted November 7, 2009 Author Report Share Posted November 7, 2009 ok...problem is back. ive determined that im only getting it if i have all 3 HDMI ports on my tv plugged in. it was working fine earlier, got home, plugged in blu-ray player into HDMI-3, works fine, but computer is back down to smaller screen when i do projector only or duplicate screen any ideas as to why it would shrink down when i have 3 HDMIs hooked up to my TV?
