GTO1
Didn't see this posted yet NHRA, producers of popular drag racing show announce agreement to produce media properties Thursday, January 07, 2010 NHRA and producers of the popular drag racing show Pinks, Stephen Pullin and Jack Schaeffer, have agreed to create, develop, and produce media properties, including new racing competitions, new events, and television programs. The first project, NHRA Unleashed, will celebrate pure American horsepower in an interactive festival environment. Pullin and Schaeffer’s Disrupt/ive Studios and NHRA will explore and develop innovative properties focused on wide-open, wheelstanding, heads-up competition embracing the car enthusiast, the roots of NHRA. NHRA Unleashed is the first of these properties to be staged in 2010, in Atlanta; Indianapolis; Hebron, Ohio; and Gainesville. A schedule of events is listed below. The plan is to expand NHRA Unleashed to other premier drag racing facilities in the United States in 2011. “We have been working for several months with Stephen, Jack, and the team at Disrupt/ive Studios to create this unique relationship,” said Tom Compton, NHRA president. “We are excited about creating new entertainment media properties and developing entertaining, interactive events aligned with television programming that highlight the foundation of NHRA, the grassroots racer and car enthusiast.” NHRA Unleashed will provide a fully interactive experience for spectators and participants, embracing a new breed of drag racing enthusiast looking for pure, doorslammer heads-up competition on the track, ranging from the 10.5 Outlaw to the 13-second weekend warrior, and a festival environment off the track. At an NHRA Unleashed event, everyone and everything is part of the show, which will feature heads-up, no-index racing on the track; interactive events, including Kart Track and Autocross activities; and the traditional car show, car/parts swap meet, and car corrals. The drag racing format on the track will have the sole purpose of highlighting competition for the pure heads-up grassroots competitors in the country, vying for the coveted Wally trophy. Each event will be as much a regional happening as it will be a drag racing event and will include exhibition runs by a variety of race vehicles. “We want to develop events and broadcast programs that capture the sport, lifestyle, culture, and original brand of NHRA Drag Racing,” Pullin said. “We believe the NHRA Unleashed event embodies everything we are looking to create jointly, a celebration of pure American horsepower.” Further details on NHRA Unleashed will be announced later in January. In addition, NHRA and Disrupt/ive Studios intend to make announcements in the coming months about additional creative ideas and proposals currently in the planning process. 2010 NHRA Unleashed schedule June 11-13: Atlanta Dragway, Atlanta Aug. 6-8: O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis, Indianapolis Sept. 10-12: National Trail Raceway, Hebron, Ohio Nov. 5-7: Gainesville Raceway, Gainesville
GTO1
On a side note. I think this would be a great way to promote Columbus Racing. They probably would do a feature if we go together as an organized group. Pinks All Out did a feature on GONE (GTOs of the North East) when they promoted themselves at that event. Hopefully this does not focus on the pro shop types that have taken over Pinks All Out and really takes a look at the guy who builds up own car to race on the weekend. GTO1
Rules for classes? I can't seem to find them. Here's the classes: NHRA Unleashed logo unveiled, event details released Tuesday, February 02, 2010 NHRA unveiled the logo for its newest exciting and interactive experience for spectators and participants, NHRA Unleashed, and further details on the event concept. NHRA Unleashed, an experience unlike any other, both on and off the track, embraces a new breed of drag racing enthusiast who is looking for pure, doorslammer heads-up competition on the track and a festival environment off the track. NHRA Unleashed will be featured in a series of televised specials that celebrate pure American horsepower. NHRA Unleashed will be a race event with entry fees, purse payout, and an NHRA Wally for the winners. The drag racing activities will include 10.5 Outlaw competition in four classes on the eighth-mile: Outlaw 10.5, Limited Street, EZ Street, and Modified Street. In addition, Heads-Up Weekend Warrior Sportsman Index Racing will feature five classes: 8.5 index, 10.0 index, 11.0 index, 12.0 index, and 13.0 index. These are the cars that race at every dragstrip across the nation and are the backbone of drag racing. They include a wide variety of muscle cars, compact cars, trucks, and even station wagons. A high-octane addition to the track excitement will be exhibition Pro Modified cars. Off the track, fans will be able to enjoy a multitude of activities and events. In keeping with the interactive theme, NHRA Unleashed events will offer a fun and challenging autocross course, where fans can race their own cars against the clock. For muscle-car enthusiasts who don’t want to actually race on the dragstrip, NHRA Unleashed will offer a chassis dyno on which fans can monitor their cars’ engine performance. A Show & Shine car show for all makes of muscle and classic cars will be at all NHRA Unleashed events. Additional spectator activities include a vast manufacturers’ midway with a number of national and local sponsorship exhibits and interactive displays and a Kids Zone with inflatables and other children’s activities. In addition, a large automotive swap meet and automotive seminars will be held covering various aspects of muscle-car restoration and high-performance secrets. Car clubs will be encouraged to attend and be assigned special parking corrals with the dragstrip properties. It will represent a great way for car clubs to show their club and vehicle brand pride and get a premium parking space. A centerpiece of the events will be NHRA Unleashed Center Stage. Strategically located in the middle of all the action, a center stage will be set up to provide a venue for television hosts to interview the drag racing stars and their families, car owners, manufacturers of automotive products, and, of course, spectators. NHRA and Disrupt/ive Studios plan to announce a television partner for the four events in the near future. The first of the 2010 NHRA Unleashed events will be June 11-13 at Atlanta Dragway. On Aug. 6-8, NHRA Unleashed will visit O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis. National Trail Raceway near Columbus, Ohio, will host an NHRA Unleashed event Sept. 10-12, and the final event on the 2010 schedule will take place at Gainesville Raceway Nov. 5-7.
