So how much fuel do they carry on a run if you figure all the idleing, the burnout and the run?

if you watched it, they did idle it, burnout, and then the run.

and its a few gallons, im thinking 15 iirc

Actually, during the run itself, from the time the driver floors the pedal to the finish, it will use about 1.1 gallon per second times 4.4 sec equals 5 gallons. Start-up, burnout, backup, and idling will consume at least five more. If they have to idle for an extra ten seconds during staging, etc., they barely have enough for the run.

and sometimes if they have a staging duel the NHRA offical will shut them down because they don't have enough to make the run and the cars can blow up. at least thats what they said the 2 times i have seen that happen.

Huh, that's pretty interesting. Not a drag guy here at all obviously...it would be neat to look at one up close.

take a closer look at those engines. they run dual magnetos. during the burn out you can see how raw fuel will dump from the headers. after they back up, they turn on the other mag system. then you can watch the pipes clear up. after it runs for 30-40 seconds, it needs rebuilt also. but that kind of racing, IMO just seems like throwing money away. but major cool still.

watch this

close to the end, you can tell when the second mag comes on.

It's interesting seeing how people get that much power out of an engine, then when you break down what all has to go into the engine to make it run at those power levels is just crazy. That's still really interesting...

I also watched the one video about the warm up procedure, which was neat to see how some of the mechanicals work in the cockpit.
