Can this download be used to replaced XP? Obviously I know it does not just "upgrade" like Vista does -- but replaces XP altogether.
jeffro
you will need a key unless its slipstreamed into that copy of windows. youll burn the image to a cd then load it like a normal copy of windows 7, but it wont prompt you for a key. Nitrousbird
Windows 7 > aging XP. I haven't verified this personally, but a buddy of mine doing a dual boot XP and Win 7 on a Core i7 system found Windows 7 to be faster than XP in real-world use. Take that for whatever it is worth - I haven't researched benchmarks or did comparisons myself. You have to burn 7 to DVD, not CD...CD doesn't have a large enough capacity. You should format and do a clean install on any OS you may install. It is noticably faster than Vista...XP has never been on my machine, so I can't compare that myself. smokin5s
Windows 7 is faster than XP.... if you want a copy of it, go to best buy and purchase it..
SpaceGhost
Going from XP to WIndows 7, you MUST reformat, it does it for you. It tells you to back up all your files on a separate disk. You can only upgrade to windows 7 without a format from Vista.

MackDaddy43
I had 7 for about 2 months before getting rid of it. I dl'd a copy when it first came out but it wouldn't run all of my other programs like xp would. So i trashed it. Now i just dual boot xp and ubuntu
