whats up CR... My dad is in the market for a new toy and he wants to get a GTO. He is a V8, NA type of guy and had a 72 vega with small block 350 in it with a turbo 350 tranny and the thing was flawless, but had to get rid of it due to some personal reasons, but now its time for a new toy. I was just wondering if anyone had any inputs on which model we should look for. We know the difference between the 04 and 05 years, but is one really better than the other? also i hear the after market for the LS1 is a lot better than the LS2 and he wants to do the basic bolt ons. I think he should go with the 04 spend a lil less on the car and use the money for the mods. So any inputs would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Eazy :D

dang that thing is sexy!! i would miss it to if i were you lol but that does look really nice and he's a pretty conservative about his cars, he doesn't like anything toooo flashy. and you brought up a good point about the exhaust. he doesn't like the single and wants duals but that shouldn't be too hard to change since he would be upgrading anyway

I assume he/you knows that the "single" exhaust is indeed true duals?

EDIT - and yes, there are several companies that sell kits to modify the 04 rear bumper cover to accept driver and passenger side exit exhaust (or, buying an 05 cover, obviously is an option).

'05-'06 ftw. mine's got around 25k miles on it. bought it almost 3 years ago with 10k on the clock for $21k. the hood scoops, and dual exhaust make the car--why else does everyone with an '04 swap in the newer hood and dual pipes??? these cars are comfortable highway cruisers.

he'll need at least a cam and longtubes to really wake it up. mine laid down 375rwhp with a catback, intake, and dyno tune

I'm an old NA guy myself so I can relate. lol

The only reason to get the 05-06 is that the L92 head is really cheap and bolts right up to a LS2. But even so my NA LS1 will still kick it's ass.

No problem fixing up an 04 for us seniors ... Can even get a sunroof.
