im looking to get a new pc for the main shop pc. all i need is a tower. i would use mine, but i dont trust it. looking to pick something up new. and the one she is using now, is slow as hell.

I need something that can multi task rather well, like having several windows open at once and not miss a beat.

memory is a plus

10 years ago i would have just picked up a e tower, but hell toss have to be way out dated by now.

looking to stay under the $500 mark.(for just the tower)

videos and all that are not important, but a plus.

i have no idea what im even looking at when it comes to numbers on these things like ram and so on. any suggestions?

You can still get a really well built pc from tigerdirect.com or microcenter. the only thing i would do after buying a prebuilt is uninstall all the useless shit and get some good security software.

$500 can get you a great pc for your uses. a decent on could be had for $300, and upgrade as needed.

I doubt he'd need to overclock it. I mean not sure exactly what he does exactly besides internet usage. But anything quad core with 4-6 or more gigs of ram on Windows Vista or 7 64bit should be overkill really.

OR you can come see me at Best Buy and i can sell you one! There is nothing wrong with Windows 7. It isnt work going to XP anymore. Seven runs everything, plus it handles all that memory and can use it more efficiently.

I took an A+ in HS, which really means nothing, but ive worked on computers since i was young. Ive done local consulting for where i used to work. I also worked in a more traditional IT environment back at my old school. I also have taken a few C++ courses. I was able to get into GS by working at Best Buy selling computers and finally was offered a position up front. Im a duel threat because i have personality and selling skills as well as skills to repair laptop screen, cracked casings, motherboard testing and replacement, an pretty much any other thing that could go wrong. Let me know if you have any other questions that we cant discuss while I whoop your azz at the track.

If you just need a basic PC to surf the web and to run MS Office and want to spend as little as possible..... This would be worth looking at.

Microcenter has refurbished Gateway Quad Core desktops with decent specs for $329.

I'm tempted to go get one for my wife.
