russian rocket
Bugatti's new 1183bhp Veyron Super Sport is officially the world's fastest production car. By Ollie Marriage 267.856mph? let's call it 268mph. Bugatti has announced the arrival of the Veyron Super Sport in suitable fashion by taking it to VW's Ehra-Lessien test track and reclaiming the world's fastest production car record. Driven by test driver Pierre-Henri Raphanel, the Super Sport hit 265.905mph in one direction, then 269.806mph in the other to comfortably claim the title from America's 256.14mph SSC Ultimate Aero TT. Powered by a development of the 8.0-litre quad-turbo V16, the Super Sport boasts 1183bhp and 1106lb ft of torque gains of 183bhp and 184lb ft over the 253mph standard car. This has been achieved through the use of bigger turbos and larger intercoolers, while the suspension and bodywork have also been modified. Will anything come along to better the mega Bug? SSC is suspected to be working on a higher performance version of the Aero, while Hennessey is now claiming its 1200bhp Exige-based Venom will be capable of 272mph. For the meantime, though, Bugatti can rest on its laurels. http://www.autoblog.nl/gallery/Bugatti/Veyron_SuperSport/slides/Bugatti_Veyron_Supersport_01.jpg http://www.autoblog.nl/gallery/Bugatti/Veyron_SuperSport/slides/Bugatti_Veyron_Supersport_02.jpg http://www.autoblog.nl/gallery/Bugatti/Veyron_SuperSport/slides/Bugatti_Veyron_Supersport_05.jpg http://www.autoblog.nl/gallery/Bugatti/Veyron_SuperSport/slides/Bugatti_Veyron_Supersport_09.jpg http://www.autoblog.nl/gallery/Bugatti/Veyron_SuperSport/slides/Bugatti_Veyron_Supersport_12.jpg http://www.autoblog.nl/gallery/Bugatti/Veyron_SuperSport/slides/Bugatti_Veyron_Supersport_15.jpg http://www.autoblog.nl/gallery/Bugatti/Veyron_SuperSport/slides/Bugatti_Veyron_Supersport_21.jpg Edited July 6, 2010 by russian rocket

But I guess you get what you pay for uhh kind of.

04silvrz
The new Ultimate Aero has 15% more horsepower and is theoretically capable of reaching over 290 mph (470 km/h), with 6th gear rated at a top speed higher than 270 mph (430 km/h). If they can find a long enough stretch of road, SSC predict 270 mph (430 km/h) is possible. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSC_Aero
HAOLE
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSC_Aero Test driver Rick Doria reported "wheel-spin" at speeds above 190 mph (310 km/h).
Forrest Gump 9
I thought ssc done it in a standing mile. Did the Veyron do it in a standing mile too?
Draco-REX
I'll give the SSC more credit if the driver and passenger could hold a conversation at those speeds.
Crossle
Holy shit, that is crazy to think about the engineering behind this thing. The Bugatti is a fantastic car, I don't know why people would rag on it. It has so much history behind it compared to the SSC which is almost a kit car with a fancy interior. sol740
Amazing car, but I still hate the way it looks.
Got-Boost?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSC_Aero I still haven't seen the SSC do anything remotely close to Bugatti. They've made a lot of claims and so called private test runs but I've yet to see repeatable PROVEN results like the Veyron. Every vid I've seen of the car testing never went over 229 on a 5+ mile road. It doesn't take much to spin the tires at 190+ when you are talking about cars in that league. After seeing these street cars run 250+ in 1-mile, I'm really not impressed with the all out speed claims...

Or maybe even your soccer mom suv? Or probably your beat to death car? Maybe both if they're lucky, right? Why are you even on this forum? You ever gonna show up to a track day with either of your turds? You know, since we're on a racing forum and all. Or I suppose you can just sit back and make unfunny quips in every thread. Aren't you American? Cause I am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
STEVE-O
I just give it up to ssc because they use a twin turbo pushrod old school v8 to make the power but bugatti uses a quad turbo v16... So the Bugatti Veyron & Super Sport use twice the motor and twice the number of turbos to make about the same amount of horsepower... But I do think it is crazy how we not have competition for a company to make a production car capeable of almost 300MPH all with over 1100 horsepower from the factory. That is insane
