noobiemcnooberson.
I have a complete s2k hid setup. I would like to make into a light you can plug into the wall so I need to convert 12v power and ground to 110 and do it safely because of the high voltage step up. Where can I buy a converter/ inverter to do this?
Igor
Easiest way to do that is a Battery + Charger.
Buckeye1647545503
you need to go 110 to 12 not the other way.
unfunnyryan
car battery charger or a computer power supply
Igor
car battery charger or a computer power supply The current draw of a HID ballast on a computer power supply would most likely fry it even a good one.
Mr. Jones
The current draw of a HID ballast on a computer power supply would most likely fry it even a good one. Single ballast average probably 10-15 amps on startup............ Even my modest PPC 750W has a 60amp+ 12V Rail.... Unless you were using an E-Machine power supply, I don't really see the issue. wnaplay1647545503
I did something similar and just bought a power box from radio shack. I now use it to plug cigarette adapter plugs into for use in the house.
Lustalbert
Battery charger without the addition of some good filter caps = bad idea. PC power suppy should be adequate, check the pinout for the supply in question, you should have no prolem putting a switch in to ground the power sense (typicaly green, pin 14 or 16) and as a bonus you get a health +5V rail to run all the LEDs you could ever want if you wish to wire up some color as well. noobiemcnooberson.
Yeah like a home lamp still deciding on how to redirect the light. Could someone please elaborate on the computer power supply suggestion. I am quite ignorant in the computer area. Thanks again
noobiemcnooberson.
A link or picture/ write up for a power supply would be awesome I will look at the diagrams and info for the amperage requirements for the circuit
unfunnyryan
Yellow and black wires on the 4 pin connectors will get you 12 volts. To turn the power supply on, take a large staple from a staple gun or something and use it to connect the green wire on the 24pin connector to any of the black wires on it.
