Too much work to satisfy your security concerns and minimize your liability. Have him fend for himself. There has to be someone else near you guys that he can mooch off of for free.

Yeah, but I fucked myself cause I kinda said yea and I kinda said "I'll get you that WEP password tomorrow". I know the password but heart but I was uncertain and that's why he does not have it. I'd change the router access password, so he wouldnt have access to the router settings.

Tell him for $15 a month he can tether a CELL PHONE hah

My vote goes no way to random neighbor... eek

Then you have to worry about the dude even paying you the monthly fee. What are you going to do... change it when he doesnt pay and be an ass? Kinda screwed either way :/

See....this guy sees my dilemma. Fuck it then. Now I gotta figure a way to retract my "we could work something out".

Could you use the $15 a month he would pay your for internet? Do you know him well? I know a friend who lives in a duplex and splits the cable with the other side. They know each other and there is some trust. If you trust and know him do it. If you don't know him well and don't need the $15, then don't do it. Just tell him you are not comfortable splitting it. He might download child porn, that would be bad.

Exactly, what happens if he doesnt pay or "forgets" for a few weeks at a time? Then what? Keep in mind he might no know a damn thing about computers and just wants free/free-ish internet connection.

If he's willing to pay you 15$ a month for your service i dont think its THAT much more to get his own internet connection at his own house, i doubt he'd be saving alot by bumming off of you.

I guess you do open yourself up to some weird shit.

A. He could download massive amounts of torrents -- i.e. you get your internet shut off and possible legal troubles.

B. He surfs tons and tons of child pornography, making your internet connection slow.

If you didn't catch that, go fuck yourself.

Have him buy you a second router, basic ones are short money. Then hook up things like this:

Internet (cable/DSL/etc) modem

TO

His router

TO

Your router

You will be behind your router's NAT and Firewall, giving you the same protection you currently have, and all of his packets will be entirely outside your network. Even if he gets the most basic WalMart POS router, you'll be hard wired so it won't effect your connection speed. 0 cost to you, with 100% control in your hands.

Although if he starts downloading 300 torrents of Midget Luchador porn your speed will go to hell. But that would be true for any solution.

this.

tell him no movie Downloads, if your speed goes to crap deals off.

you can trust him a bit . . . you know where he lives.

not a good idea, plain and simple---just tell him no. if you already agreed, you can tell him that you've thought about it more, and don't think its a great idea. what kind of a cheap-ass asks his brand new neighbor to mooch internet??

Why come up with an excuse? Just tell him after thinking about it you just dont feel its a good idea.

Thinking this. At the moment of truth, blaming wife as a fail safe. Or I just act like it was never a conversation and just not mention it again.
