Now this is my first 556 gun. Where is the best place to get the cheapest plinking rounds that are fairly accurate?

Nice, but those sights weird me out. I'll stick with MBUS and Troy. I shoot Privi M193, fairly cheap, but also nicely powerful and accurate. If I am feeling dirty I'll burn some Wolf :bangbang: I use http://www.ammunitiontogo.com for decent prices, but ARFCOM keeps the most up-to-date list with prices for 5.56

Cheap and fairly accurate? Fail. You can get shit wolf or brown bear for around $200/1000, at either palmetto state armory or aimsurplus (or most places). I only see 4-6moa if that. The PMC x-tac is pretty solid right now, AIM or Palmetto have it for about $330/1000. People have been seeing pretty good groups out of it- around 2moa and it has decent brass too. You need to get yourself some SMKs and see how it will REALLY shoot.

fluted barrell, 1x8 twist

Personally I consider cheap ammo to be like cheap gas. Do you really want some inferior junk running through a rifle you just dropped over $1K on? American Eagle XM193 is no more than $9/Box or 20 rounds. A 55grain round would be perfect to run through it to break in. I'm acquiring a small stash of Sierra match king 77 grain 5.56mm. Can't wait to shoot it personally.

This. Get some quality ammo and some quality glass for it and you'll have yourself a decent plinker.

Speaking of decent glass, I've been hearing great reviews from Trijicon's AccuPoint series and some of the Nightforce optics. Either way, just like with the ammo, that rifle will only really be as good as the glass that sits atop it.

Look for some 55 grain Portuguese military surplus. It used to be cheap and plentiful, now it's harder to find but it shoots great. Headstamp is FNM and will likely be from the 80's.

I shot this 5 round group at 50 yds using a basic 16" AR15. It did have a free-float front grip/rail, but was otherwise military spec. Nice group for military surplus!!
