zeitgeist57
Terrible. Goodbye to that race! I never heard of it but in today's society we'll probably never see it raced after this accident.
04silvrz
it always seemed crazy to have people line the side of teh roads when a car / truck is traveling 100+ mph in the dirt during these rallys. that sucks.
Slowbalt
That is very unfortunate. I wonder if there was any negligence on the drivers end that would cause people to throw rocks? Seems like the whole point of this race is jumping over stuff so why would the crowd stand so close?
2pointslow
Slowbalt- that was my thought, the driver should not be punished. He has to live with this everyday for the rest of his life. As to the fans, this is a wake up call. It is stupid to stand next to the track as a vehicle is traveling 100+ mph around turns and through the air...
Mr. Jones
If you chose to stand 3' away from trucks racing @ 100mph in the dirt and you get hurt, well shame on you. Imagine spectators @ F1 getting injured because they had their lawn chairs setup on the apex's for best pictures. Epic.Human.Fail
nurkvinny
"The crowd was standing within 10 feet of the track with no guardrails separating them from the speeding vehicles." Asking for it.

RedRocket1647545505
Not to mention, Baja spectators are notorious for setting booby-traps (think wicked speed bumps @ 100+mph) for the racers, just to see the crashes. Screw the spectators. That's their own damn fault.
6 Speed S4
Sounds like they had it coming. Just like rally spectators who are literally on the course taking pictures.
Crossle
It's rally racing....this should not be any suprise. This shit happens pretty often, you can stand anywhere because you can't possibly control the area of where the stages move to. People are going to stand close and as Pat and I saw at STPR there are def. people who don't attend motor sports events frequently to understand the "norm" for spectating. Hell we were sitting 4-5 ft away from the cars through a fast section under braking where the cars pendulum swing into a tight left hander. It's part of the sport. CRAWDAD
I seen this on the news the other night. Is there any video of the crash? The news only showed a picture of the baja truck on its lid.
99FLHRCI
News had a video of it last night. Looks like the truck went over a small jump/drop off and didnt land quite straight. He went off the left side and rolled it into the crowd. They said the driver was Brett Michels if I heard correctly. Both him and his copilot/navigator had to flee because they were getting stoned by spectators. They said 8 dead 17 injured. I can't see it at work but, I believe this is the video. 99BlownYellowGT
There was no room for error at all where those guys were standing. That was just pure stupidity.
CRAWDAD
thx for the video. that is just crazy for people to be standing that close to the track.
