1.8T sludge problems are only a result of poor maintenance compounded by tiny passages. If you can find one with a healthy documented oil changes, I wouldn't have an issue buying one.

The AWD system will hold out find for basic upgrades, IE: k04/gt/ ect, yet to see one let go from something other than abuse/ lack of maintenance.

For the most part they are fairly reliable cars, esp the V6 manual.

With 100k miles? no.

By that point, even if they kept up on preventative engine maintenance, the rest of the car will need attention.. for example the control arm bushings, end links, etc.

Good point. My Passat has over 101k miles on it and the front suspension creaks and shifts. Plus, it doesn't hold an alignment worth crap. :(

Year? 1.8T? Quattro? Hard Top?

I loved my Audi, but I'd never own one again with over 100K.

1.8T have sludge issues.

Plus one on the sludge...my buddy spent a ton of money on an a4 that he had less than a year due to sludge.

they are just a beetle with awd. I would have no problem buying one with a 1.8. The pan is super easy to pull and clean it, put an oil pump pick up on it and run synthetic...good to go

What? Seriously?

I was pretty sure they were on the GTI chassis. You guys are getting the front suspension issues of the b5 chassis confused, the Audi TT is a totally different car than an A4/Passat.

That being said- I wouldn't have any issues with the 1.8t at 100k miles. Our passat we bought new and put 110k on it still ran like new when we traded it in. We never had sludge issues, nor did anyone else I knew who used synthetic oil.
