im faster
Okay.. so i thinking of Picking up a 2002 Nissan altima.. car looks great.. but they have a bad problem with the cat being to close to the motor and degrading and pieces going into the motor causing excessive oil consumption then failure of the engine. Any idea How much i should expect to pay when i need to put a new motor into it? also do you know if the 3.5 se motor is a direct bolt in? or with little extra work? turbospec29
The 3.5 will not just bolt in... and a new 2.5 would cost some money. Best bet is to pull the current engine and rebuild with 07+ qr25 parts, then modify the exhaust and eliminate the pre-cat.

im faster
Also will a new motor fit in this? it seems to have been a big problem between 02-
turbospec29
any idea on how much that will cost? i cannot do it i live in an apartment.. Are you asking if I work at a dealership? No, I do not. I just have experience with those engines. A dealer would prob only use parts going by the VIN number. Also will a new motor fit in this? it seems to have been a big problem between 02-04 What are you asking here? I'm implying that you rebuild the current motor, of course it would fit. In 2007 they redesigned the qr25 to perform better and be much more durable, I would only replace parts that are damaged though. Do you even own this car? Just looking to see what it would cost? That's hard to say not knowing the problems, but I say a safe budget to have one rebuilt would be ~3000
turbospec29
You don't seem to understand engine builds enough for this kind of situation. Without meaning any disrespect I would recommend you walk away if you notice anything hinting towards engine damage
Bam
Why not avoid the entire issue and replace the cats before it causes an issue, or delete the cats and not worry. Both options seems a lot easier and cheaper than replacing an engine. My .
im faster
The cats are already junk and have caused the motor to consume excessive amounts of oil
