What happened to the last swap?

I had trouble finding a reputable JDM engine importer that I felt I could trust giving 2k to send me a complete motor and transmission.

 

So why this one now?

There are seemingly SVX's all over Ohio with blown transmissions, although the one I picked up runs just fine. The motor doesn't make enough power to make an SVX fast, because it weights 20 bagillion lbs and the power is going through a slushbox, but will do nicely in a GM/GC body Impreza.

 

How do you put it in?

Using stock EJ series mounts.

 

Engine management?

I want to race this season, so I won't be taking the time to figure out a Megasquirt this time. Stock ECU, with a chip from ECUTune.com to raise the rev limit to 7800. The two harnesses are going out to someone to have them merged together, arrangements already being made. It will be a plug and play deal.

 

Any cutting?

Radiator has to be moved forward 3 inches or replaced with a smaller one mounted like a front mount intercooler. Some people have suggested a Saab 900 radiator. This involves cutting the radiator support otherwise.

Its got a few weird electrical modifications. Apparently there is something wrong with the ignition switch, so they wired in a SPST momentary switch to start the car.

In addition, it looks like one of the coil packs went bad, so they wired in an MSD blaster on one cylinder.

Pretty cool! How is the aftermarket for that motor compared to the other options you were considering? What car is it going into?

 

Limited, but the people that have it covered have it pretty well covered. ECUTune.com does a little bit of everything, multiple tunes, High/stock/low compression pistons, cams, ect. Its going into my Impreza which you can see in my garage in my sig. Its for Rallycross mostly, but will probably see a few autocross events too.

 

Was this the car sitting at Performance Theory? Looks like the same one they had sitting outside forever.

This is the EFI Logics EG33 (stroked to 3.5 ltrs) track car. Makes 320 NA HP. Its the car that all other EG33 swap cars wish they were, but its awesome.

Manual transmission? As shitty as my svx was, I kinda miss that thing.

 

This SVX is nothing special, so no manual swap or anything like that. However, in the Impreza it will be mated to a 5MT.

 

You can always buy the body when I am done, and put in an LS1. Would combine your two favorite things.

They aren't my favorite things I just like trolling people. And yeah that's what I was wondering; if it will be mated to the manual.

 

320hp is a lot for a Legacy 5mt though..?

 

I am not going to get 320 out of this motor, that was just that race car that I posted. That car had high comp pistons, cams, built bottom end, stand alone engine management, and the hood scoop was set up as a ram air setup.

 

On a stock longblock, NA, about par for the course is 230.

Finalized the plan for the wiring merger with Jake on RS25. If he gets done as fast as he says he will be done, this whole swap could be done pretty quick. Don't want to get my hopes up, but this guy really knows his stuff. Hes also giving me an ignition coil to replace the Blaster SS that was wired in.
