Who still runs radar detectors?

IF so what do you run?

Has it paid for itself?

I run a passport 8500 but my laser is disabled because of a stupid defect. I really really want antilaser gear at some point.

Mine has paid for itself time and time again though I wish I had a 9500 so I can GPS mark all the damn freeway Kband sensors for tracking traffic speeds.

My passport has paid for itself time and time again against KA.

Same here, love mine, although I don't use it much on highway for the same reasons, I guess those things are used for the signs saying how long its going to take you to get from A to B, and I am sure they also monitor avg speed of traffic. I do want the 9500 also.

I know there are a lot of naive people that don't know how to use the detectors properly and some on this board that just plain hate them, but I would swear by a good one. Escort or V1.

Oh and you don't know what your missing when your out on a country road and you get an alert for a cop that is over 1 mile ahead, plenty of time to slow down. My best was 2+ miles on old US35 and he was approaching me.

So yes it has paid for itself many times over and no it does not encourage me to speed, it's just always there as a friendly reminder to think twice before I do something stupid and or to remind me to let off if I am cruising at 75 on highway and need to get back to 65 or so.

Have you considered getting a LAZER Shifter 3?

I would love to, price vs use is a concern. If my commute was 1+ hrs vs my 1 mile I drive and I knew I would be getting hit by laser OSP on the highway during rushhour all the time I would.

I also wonder what the next technology is and how far they are going to go with these speed cameras, and ways to combat that.

BTW have you been to the store/plant where they are made and based in Cincy it's only an hour and a half from you in Cbus. They will refurbish your 8500 for like 50 bucks. Oh and have you seen the new suction cups they have for it.... totally bad ass would never need another one again. https://www.escortradar.com/store/product.php?productid=16219&cat=259&page=1

I WANT THAT CUP!

50$ you say.

Somewhere around there, I got it done to mine and they offered to ship it back to me for free after I dropped it off although I just went back and picked it up. It took like two days, and they gave me new suction cups and a mount and cord with it, I forget if it was 50 or 70 though. Either way it worked and looked like brand new when I got it back, I think they just cleaned the case but I swear they put a new one on lol. I assume they still do this service, this was like 2 years ago.

They also offer $80 for a trade in for the 9500 but I think you could get at least $125-$150 selling it on your own.

or find someone who works at Best Buy to get it for you. They have an accommodation through Escort and get them for 50% off.... That's how I got mine 5years ago when the girl worked for BB, hell that's pretty much how we were able to afford all of our toys. BB pretty much has the best employee discounts of any store I have ever encountered. Anyone out there work for them and want to back me up on that.

Put it this way they have/had an accommodation through Klipsch for the price of these towers....http://www.klipsch.com/rf-82-ii-floorstanding-speaker (note these are the II's the RF-82 I's were 1k a pair)

I received the towers, surrounds, center, and 12 inch $800 sub. Shipped to my door in an 18 wheeler, on a 300+ pound pallet. NO SHIPPING, NO TAX all legit for 1k.

In no way am I bragging as I could not have afforded all of that without the discount.

Bill I have a 9500ix I use. IMO you get what you pay for and the GPS function is bad ass. I have mine set to display MPH all the time unless it goes of. False alerts are few and far in between but they still happen.

I've left my V1 in the drawer for 3yrs now. Never use it. Don't miss it either. Over the years, I've found that so long as you pay attention you need a detector.

My commute is 30-35 minutes around 270 or down 315 to 270 and I am not a light foot. Key is to just be aware of where cops sit on your route and watch traffic. Don't speed if you're alone, the lead car or traffic is extremely light. Just keep it at 74-75mph then and they won't bother you. I do it all the time. I often have fun high speed blasts but you just have to be aware.

Around here they always shoot laser anyway, unless they are on the other side of the freeway coming towards you. In that case, if you're blasting down the fast lane you're dumb anyway and deserve to get busted. I stick to the inside lanes passing only where needed and can average 75+ or in my case just pace alone side someone else using them as a shield. I did that just yesterday at 270 and Alum just before my exit 49. I know they wait there often as you come up over the crest. Kept my speed at 74mph in the center lane come off the gas at the top of the hill and had two cars between me and him as I was in the fast lane. Speed was in check and view obstructed. Then I took it back up to near 80mph until the exit. Never blinked.

The other key is keeping an eye on traffic in front and in back of you. If traffic is anything but light, you will see brake lights or clumping. Like clockwork really. Keeping an eye on the rear view is important as often they will be coming down the fast lane and traffic moves over and or clumps. You rarely see them cruising in the slow or center lanes as it would prevent them from using radar against oncoming traffic. Shield affect works there too. Just don't slingshot around folks to draw attention.

If you have one I suppose use it as it couldn't hurt. I just feel they are much protection. I use my habit of spirited driving and record as my benchmark. Outside the ticket I fought in Feb 06, I've not had any speed related issues. The only other time in 08 was a lane change without signal and it was just a warning and my bad for not doing the rear view check or simply using a signal.

V1 is awesome. I don't use it much when in the city especially when going to work. I know where they sit on 270 and I do what Tim does. I travel a lot to Canton and back. Going up 71 and Route 30 it helps a lot. I don't tend to speed when taking a trip I just put on my cruise control. I just can't stand 60 mph speed limit on 30.

I would say that if you do not have a laser blocker do not bother. 85 to 90% of the time here in Columbus I get hit with laser and if you are only detecting it it is to late. Call escort and get your blocker fixed. The one you have had defective cases. They will fix it and you will be good to go.

A nice passport 8500 and up with laser shifters front and rear is about as good as it gets without spending a ton of money. Although cpd is so petty its ridiculous. I was getting onto 670 friday evening and noticed a cpd cruiser was stopped helping someone. I was in the far right lane where they were so I got over into the center lane to be curteous and the asshole jumped in his cruiser and pulled me over for window tint. Maybe next time I should just clip his fucking door that was sticking out in the freeway. He acted like I was a mass murderer and gave me a very lengthy lecture about window tint. Seriously get a life piece of shit cpd officer.
