Need help with a laptop purchase

My compaq was a victim of gravity. What should I be looking for in price and features for a new or slightly used laptop? My current one is a compaq presario nq50 (or something like that).. dual core, 15inch screeen, worked great for what I needed it for. I wouldnt mind a bigger screen, but thats about it. Help a bruva out so I dont get raped trying to buy a new laptop.

What do you mainly use it for? Surfing? Gaming? Any software that you run on it alot? Do you need alot of storage for pics or vids? Do you need speed? Or do you have an external hard drive to store?

P.S. I was going to replace the cracked display but its 150-200 for me to install. For that price I can get a used one and transfer the hard drive.
