Lead vs. Bondo bodywork

Regarding my Ford pickup...I have some emblem and side mirror holes to fill in. I've never used Bondo, nor lead, but I'm willing to learn the best way to fill some holes no bigger than 3/8".

Any advice would be appreciated. This is a $1k basic truck that will end up being my "custom car" canvas and long-term DD/parts hauler in my suburban life; not a high-$$$ or show-car job needed. Cheap is preferable. Thanks!

Lead as I understand it is superior for filling seams and holes on Bodywork. But it is nearly a lost art. Bondo and fiberglass filler will be an easier, and far more cost effective solution. If you buy quality supplies it'll last for more than two or three years.
