Littleguy
Well, since the weather is perfect outside today and I just wax'd the GTO I thought it would be the perfect time to practice taking some pictures with the camera Santa got for me. All shots taken with my Canon T3 Rebel and pictures have been re-sized but not edited. http://www.newcelica.org/photopost/data/500/IMG_02711.jpg http://www.newcelica.org/photopost/data/500/IMG_02751.jpg http://www.newcelica.org/photopost/data/500/IMG_02731.jpg http://www.newcelica.org/photopost/data/500/IMG_02811.jpg http://www.newcelica.org/photopost/data/500/IMG_02791.jpg http://www.newcelica.org/photopost/data/500/IMG_02833.jpg http://www.newcelica.org/photopost/data/500/IMG_0288.jpg http://www.newcelica.org/photopost/data/500/IMG_0291.jpg http://www.newcelica.org/photopost/data/500/IMG_0294.jpg http://www.newcelica.org/photopost/data/500/IMG_0300.jpg http://www.newcelica.org/photopost/data/500/IMG_0296.jpg http://www.newcelica.org/photopost/data/500/IMG_03111.jpg http://www.newcelica.org/photopost/data/500/IMG_0312.jpg http://www.newcelica.org/photopost/data/500/IMG_03251.jpg ......and all these pics made Leroy tired http://www.newcelica.org/photopost/data/500/IMG_02461.jpg So, I used the stock 18-55 lens with auto-focus and stabilizer on and had a mono-pod for extra stabilization. I left the camera in full auto the entire time since I'm very much a noob. If any of you camera experts have tips that a novice like me can use to improve shots I'd appreciate them. TTQ B4U
First, excellent weather, cool car and good pics. Congrats on the new weapon. You'll love the learning curve. Here are my random thoughts. First, I think the pics turned out decent for Auto Mode. I don't ever use it, but it worked well for what it is. Read up on some links about Av and Tv modes. I use Av most. The one thing that would really pop for you is the Depth of Field. Auto mode put you at f/11 which is at the limits of that lens and most non L-Lenses and on a crop body puts you close to experiencing diffraction which begins to cause visible softening of digital camera images. On your camera which is a crop body it begins a f/stops above f/8 and becomes more apparent at f/11 and up. Your kits lens goes to f/3.5 which isn't very wide on that camera but opening it up would blur the background a bit more. Key with that lens would be to zoom in all the way, step back to compose the shot and shoot at say f/3.5 to f/4. Try that and then shoot the same composition / scene at f/8 zoomed to match the first and view both side by side and tell me what you think. I like the second shot. Fill the screen with the subject. Nice. Just keep an eye on verticals and keep them straight. Horizons too. The fourth shot is good but if you look at the verticals, the reason it looks a little off and the tops are leaning inwards is due to perspective and lens distortion. On this lens it exhibits some pincushioning. The review in the link below will help you understand the lens a bit better. Both can be fixed in Post Processing quite easily. I like the profile shots of the car too. Again, open that aperture up, step back and zoom in and it will pop a bit more. Look up rule of thirds too. Keep the car in the lower third of the the frame. The next shot is decent too. Shooting cars, keep low. I tend not to bring the camera higher than the wheels or fenders on a lot of shots. Think the height of a 3-4 year old Lastly, the dog is cool. Just also beware of background objects that tend to look like things growing out of heads Overall, well done. I tossed a lot at you, hope it makes sense. Again, the learning curve is 1/2 the fun. Littleguy
Thanks for the feedback Tim. The camera has ended up being much more fun a gift than I would have thought. I'm going to try it like you said, f/3.5-f/4 this afternoon when I go to a car gathering and see how the shots turn out. I'm also going to try out adjusting aperture, right now it's at 8, what should I be putting it on? Edid: aha, field of depth and aperture are the same thing. lesson learned, lol. Thanks Tim! I changed to av mode and played around with the aperture this afternoon when I met up with a couple of buddies for Sunday evening coffee, here's the best of what I got http://www.newcelica.org/photopost/data/500/IMG_0354.jpg http://www.newcelica.org/photopost/data/500/IMG_03601.jpg http://www.newcelica.org/photopost/data/500/IMG_03482.jpg http://www.newcelica.org/photopost/data/500/IMG_0353.jpg http://www.newcelica.org/photopost/data/500/IMG_03471.jpg We were in a more cramped space than I was earlier today, so I'm not as happy with the way the cars are framed in the shot, but I do see the improvement of changing some of the settings. TTQ B4U
BRB....going to rub one out to that Caddy Two other things. 1. Check the settings on your camera and insure the clock is set for am/pm correctly. Yours appears to be 12hrs off. 2. Also on such a beautiful day, try and avoid the sun being so high in the sky. 1am until 3pm in TX provides some pretty harsh lighting. Evening however would be great. ImUrOBGYN
Yeah, I was gonna say exactly what Tim said but better. So, I'll just say this: Leeerrroooyyy!!!! Oh, and nice improvement in quality on the second set of pics, buddy. Like he said above, seeing how the weather currently is here, it doesn't seem like you could've taken those today. haha

Those are the tires that came with the car. Brand new when he got it so he might as well waste them. I saw one pic where there may've been a bit of feathering or something but hard to say if it's just the pic or not.
Littleguy
Haha, I definetly know about the tires. They put them on the day I went to look at the car and I was soo dissapointed. Needless to say I'm wearing them down pretty quickly and you guys can expect some new wheels with G-force T/A's this spring.
