Back before internets and all the jading soul-thinners we've sucked into our systems over the past decade things slightly over-the-top actually affected us young, impressionable children. To see angry people with wheels as appendages cornering our Dorothy was like watching a loved family member being chased down by large African rapists. That shit mattered, and the last position you ever wanted to find yourself in as a kid was to be in the middle of a nightmare of some 80's freak on wheels hot on your ass saying he's going to tear you into pieces.
