y2k2gt
I've built a .030 teksid shortblock with manley flatop pistons, cobra crankshaft and manley h-beam rods. The crank and rods are the same ones I've ran since 05. I have a fresh set of ported PI heads with all new valves, valve seals, valve guides and high load valve springs. I'm running the same custom cams that are 230/230 .560/.560 115lsa. I also had my edelbrock intake ported. http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t165/y2k2gt/IMG175.jpg http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t165/y2k2gt/IMG178.jpg http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t165/y2k2gt/IMG171.jpg http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t165/y2k2gt/IMG186.jpg http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t165/y2k2gt/IMG180.jpg http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t165/y2k2gt/IMG179.jpg
y2k2gt
I ran into a snag assembling the shortblock. I found a broken off headbolt in the block. I bought a time sert headbolt repair kit and fixed it. I then broke a arp headstud down in the block on the other side. I drilled it out and didnt get the insert installed right and it pulled right out when I torqued it to 90lbs. I the drilled and tapped the hole for 1/2 thread size. I bought a piece of 1/2 all thread and cut off a section the length of the threads on a arp headstud. I then tapped it for the 11mm 1.5 thread size and inserted it in he block and it held. http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t165/y2k2gt/IMG228.jpg http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t165/y2k2gt/IMG229.jpg

Ackbar00
Why did you build it as a 12:1 motor?

Linn1647545492
i hope that was a low boost setting.
Nate1647545505
Not saying it wasn't a good idea, but the whole idea behind turbocharging - or adding any boost to a motor - is that you can cool the compression outside of the cylinder. Even with some serious intake duration, you'll really need to look into E85 to straight alcohol (if you haven't already). Either way, good luck with everything. Fixing anything do with head bolts scares the bejesus out of me.
y2k2gt
Why did you build it as a 12:1 motor? To make more hp.. i hope that was a low boost setting. It was 12psi and the car ran 10.30's in the 130's at this setting. I short shifted from 1st to 2nd without getting in to boost until it was in 2nd. It broke the 28" M&H drag radials lose at 5500rpm and I then shifted to 3rd. You cant see wheel spin by watching the speedometer. I have a th400 transmission and I set the speedometer to work off the front passenger abs ring. You can see the rpms jump at the 6 sec mark when it spun and thats when I hit 3rd. At the track I shift at 7200rpm.
Ackbar00
Well no shit Eddie Just wondering why so much for a boosted application. I know boost and CR go hand in hand, but the general school of thought is to run a lower compression ratio and more boost than to run a higher ratio and less boost. Was wondering why you went the way you did.
JaSSon
That kind of CR and you'll want a pretty efficient FMIC and direct injection. In your case I'd expect E85 or meth injection to be a must-have. Edit: how are you not eating valves with those flat tops?
y2k2gt
I did my homework and studied up on E85. That's all I've been running the past 2 years. General school of thought is out when it comes to E85. If there was a ptv issue it would even hit a dished piston.
