GT500 SuperSnake cam upgrades

I think I probably posted about this car the first time around. Anyway, this car is back for round 2 of mods which includes a new twin disc clutch, our custom cam upgrade, and all of the plastic body paneling on the outside of the car is getting replaced with real carbon fiber pieces from TruCarbon. It will probably be a week or so before the car is 100% complete but thought I would share some pics in the meantime.

 

The first thing to do was drop the engine/trans out to begin making way for the cams and the new clutch install.

Since we were in this far, we went ahead and upgraded the oil pump gears with a set of billet ones

For the clutch we went with a Mcleod RXT twin disc. The clutches have good holding capacity and a very light pedal which makes it great for street use

Yeah, we just recently tinted it as well. The pic of the car is actually from last year some time. The other pics are recent.

For some reason I thought they came with 750 HP, or something along those lines. Didn't IPS mod one to over 850?

 

I've only seen one in person and it had a much different exhaust note. Sounded pretty good!

What makes a supersnake different then a normal GT500 of the same year, I dont think I have ever seen one

 

The SuperSnake's are sent to shelby for an upgrade package. Most get either a 2.8 Kenne Bell or 3.4 Whipple blower, a new hood, different stripe package, carbon fiber ground effects, 1 piece driveshaft, upgraded baer brakes all the way around, and a few other minor things.

 

What are the specs on the new cams?

 

We dont publish our custom specs. They are huge though compared to stock. On most of our custom cams, we give the customer the specs and let them decide if they want to publish the specs or not. Most do not.

 

wow over 700 how much does one cost

 

The SuperSnakes are generally a little over $100k when it is all said and done

Im not sure if the Kenne Bell versions come with the bap or not. We have done a few with both the KB and Whipple blowers. The whipple versions do not come with a pump upgrade and I simply cant remember on the KB version. The 750hp package shelby sells is pretty lame. Most of the cars lay down around 600-620 at the tires and a simple tune only will net right at 700 to the tires give or take. IPS did a silver one a while back and then Power by the Hour,L&M Engines,and Revan Racing teamed up on that same car and did a new motor, larger blower, and a few other goodies for the car and set the standing mile record for a SuperSnake at the texas mile last october. The same guys then turned around and went even faster this spring with one.

So what do most car put out with these mods?

 

The car hasnt been on the dyno yet. It is probably a week or so out from being completed. We expect to see a 50-75hp gain from the cams. The car previously made around 690 to the wheels iirc.

The car is getting close. I was out on vacation all last week, so Im just now getting back into the swing of things. The car is up and running. Gonna put some break in miles on the new clutch and then it will be ready for the dyno.

 

The car hit the alignment rack today for a quick adjustment after having the k member dropped out with the motor.
