mmrmnhrm
its because when you have that much electric (not sure if its amperage or voltage that causes it) passing through your body, it causes your muscles to tense up and you physcally cannot let go. This is true of AC. DC will blast your ass across the room and leave it charred and smoking. on another note (and out of curiousity for me) what phase do the electric motors for hybrids and full electric cars run on? is it single phase or a multiple phase? AFAIK, all hybrids use brushless DC motors. The question of "phase" doesn't apply, as that is specific to AC.
Green Bastard
ahhh, I knew that about dc, just didn't think about it. I didn't know dc would blow you across a room though. I wonder what the purpose of that stick would be then.

The hybrid controller converts DC to AC for the compressor and the drive motors and 42 volt DC for the power steering.
Cordell
Anytime electricity is generated it comes out as AC, why do you think alternators have regulators and diode packs in them? The big electric motors in hybrids have the voltage and diode controls seperate from the motor and is why they run on alternating current. Keep in mind that the motor is also the generator when it isn't driving the vehicle.
