Dr. Apex
Anyone seen or have experience with the 3M "Black Chrome" window tint?? I'm looking at tint for the Mustang as it's neccessary down here with the sun and leather in the car. The Black Chrome is supposed to have the best heat rejection even compared to the ceramic and I don't mind the darker stuff, just curious to how "chrome" it is as I don't want that. Google brings up random pics of "black" and "chrome" window tint but it's hard to tell on some of them. The shop did have a smaple of the stuff on a slide type thing but no real examples of how it looks on a car so I'm reluctant with it yet. SpaceGhost
If it has metal in it it will degrade cell phone signal and Bluetooth connectivity.
Rocky31186
No, just get regular tint. What is legal there? A friend of mine had that tint, thought I had a photo on my phone from him. Pictures don't show the "chrome" it has in person. Looks just like the old school chrome tint, but black.
Nickey4271647545519
Here's 20% black chrome. I dont like it http://www.firstcoastglasscoatings.com/pictures/metal%20tint.jpg http://www.firstcoastglasscoatings.com/pictures/tint002.jpg http://www.firstcoastglasscoatings.com/pictures/tint%20001.jpg
Dr. Apex
I saw that pic of the Tundra, if it's that chrome I won't do it. Not worried about the cell signal but I did read that it will interfere as it's a "metallic" tint. Legal I'm told by the tint shop is 35%, others are telling me 20% but I found 33% is the max. Reflective tint is allowed at 35% but as I said I don't want the chrome at all.

Dr. Apex
Duff, appreciate the tip, any pics by chance or is that Tundra spot on?? I had hoped maybe it was something like you see on other things, but it looks like not.
Duff1647545513
I'll try to get a pic for you. Mine isn't quite as chrome as the tundra
Duff1647545513
My car with the 5% black chrome. Looks a little more chrome in the pic http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m165/Jduffey/2012-07-25_19-58-12_819.jpg My brother's car with just 5% black tint. http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m165/Jduffey/2012-07-25_19-58-36_39.jpg Pretty difficult to get a clear picture of what either really look like
Dr. Apex
Hell, that's nowhere near as bad as that Tundra. I had no intention of going with that dark of tint anyway, maybe 20% but was looking at their 33% which should have some transparency to it. Even the 35% has a 53% heat rejection which is a lot more than most tints, the 20% goes up to a 68% heat rejection which is the best you can get without going to ceramic or crystalline which is super expensive. Hmmm, now I'm rethinking it all, was leaning away from the black chrome with the pics of that tundra. Dammit.....lol. Thanx for the pix. Amazes me how many types of tint are out there, but it sounds like you need to give up a little in either looks or reflectivity.
iwashmycar
I would vote to just go with a good black tint. It is still going to help tremendously and still look good. On a really sunny day it'll probably still look like that Tundra
Rocky31186
I googled "Black chrome window tint" And almost all of the images look like the tundra. I would vote NO. Regular black would look much better on your car.
twistedfocus1647545489
Do not want (chrome). My Pinnacle Ceramic 35% offers about the same heat rejection you mentioned (54%) but looks better IMO. It's also nonmetallic, so no signal issues. Edit: Cell pic of my tint. Glare kinda messes it up. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v691/twistedfocus/35tint.jpg?t=1312458289 Edited July 26, 2012 by twistedfocus
Dr. Apex
Yeah, it's been hard to gauge with some pics it's looks decent and others it's super reflective. The ceramic tint is great and the Crystalline they have now blocking over 90% of heat is unreal, but at $600 for tint I'll pass on those. They have the Color Stable for $300 and all the locals here say to get the color stable at least as the sun will turn anything else blue in a year or 2. Rocky, I did the same but if you look Google is pulling up pics of "black" tint and "chrome" tint, one of those little things search engines don't do well at times, it's pulling anything with wither of those words in it. Just wish I could find someone down here with it so I could see it in person and end the debate for me, still have until next Thur when my appt is though. My thread on here with price from Quality is around somewhere. Edit: http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=89071 My car was $396+Tax from Quality. iwashmycar
Just happened to be in traffic behind this Matrix and realized it must be that chrome tint. It did successfully blind the shit outta me. http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a299/iwashmycar/PS/IMG-20120726-00074.jpg
Dr. Apex
AAAWWW YEEAAHH DOG CHROME DAT SHIT Y0000 Be Brian and liven up a thread! Odds are I will end up with the Color Stable black tint. Ben, I misquoted a bit, the Ceramic is $500, Crystalline $600, that's installed of course. The Black Chrome is $300, $350 for the Color Stable.
