mrs.cos
How did this not get noticed? Radar for me has been terrible since the storm on the 29th. I thought maybe something was wacky with the site or maybe the actual radar was down, so i emailed the tech people there and started doing some research of my own.. I came across this! http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/07/02/1105318/-Weather-geeks-Wunderground-bought-by-TWC http://www.wunderground.com/blog/JeffMasters/article.html?entrynum=2143 It's true. After 17 years as an independent company, Weather Underground has been sold, and will now be part of The Weather Channel Companies (TWCC.) As one of the founders of Weather Underground, I am excited about embarking upon this new chapter in our company's history. Having the infrastructure, resources, and content of The Weather Channel Companies will enable wunderground to create some great new products, and improve the quality and reliability of our existing content. WHAT?? reliability of content!?!?? I use WU because its WAAAAAAAYYYY more reliable than TWCC: :fuuuu::fuuuu::fuuuu::fuuuu: TWCC are owned by Comcast and private equity firms Bain Capital and Blackstone Capital. In January, the board replaced the CEO and COO of TWC, and the new leadership is determined to move aggressively to improve the web site, and the fastest way to do that was purchase WU. Its not as easy to read, but in terms of up-to-date weather and radar, it can't be beat.
evan9381
I noticed WU has sucked lately too, but didnt have effort to care why. I was gonna ride on a wednesday night, "80% chance of rain". No rain. Same thing a couple days later.
