Mojoe
Might have to go with M4 also. Based on comfort with the weapon and availability of ammo. It's the Mr. Potatoe Head of guns. Just attach whatever you want to it. This will be an interesting thread.
Dammit Charlie
M4 definitely. Very versatile compact, accurate, and there a ton of them out there.
KentStateTsi
Keeping my scar if I had to choose just one. Even with the fact the heavy mags are pricey and can be difficult to find.

KillJoy
Remington 870 in 12 GA Reliable as the the Sunrise. Plentiful ammo availability. Lots of ammo choices. Multiple barrel options. Otis Nice
.22 rifle with high cap mag. Cheap ammo. Can be used to hunt small game. Enough rounds will slow down an attacker. Can carry hundreds of rounds easily. Didn't say it had to be powerful.

BrianZ06
No ones going to say Glock 19 ???? I would want something I could carry and transport easily. Does not have to be a Glock. Just a pistol that you would trust to go bang every time you need it.

Nate1647545505
I'm impulseive to M1 platforms, but I would probably go with an M4/16 setup. After shooting an OBR, I found it highly addictive. Edited November 5, 2012 by Nate

Why would you take a peasant rifle over an AK47 that does everything an sks can do BUT BETTER.
Jelloman4571647545499
m4 due to availability of ammo and capability of platform.
Forrest Gump 9
So....... Handguns=something with 9mm Shotgun= 12 gauge Rifle= 5.56 Am I right? I'm surprise no one suggest an AK
Mojoe
I want to say AK. Just bought a case of ammo for half the cost of 5.56. I'm told they shot upside down, underwater, with lava in the action and there are no issues. I've not shot mine yet to have an opinion though. TTQ B4U
If you guys just have to choose one gun to have, what would you pick and why? Depends on the purpose. If the wife limited my choices and toys, I'd take my Glock 19 or as already noted a pistol that's reliable and good all around. If it was for home protection, I'll take my 12ga. versatile as all hell. Zombie gun, I'd likely choose an M4 though I've not had much experience with one outside shooting my brother in laws. Wonderboy
Glock 23 all day long. Easy to carry and surprisingly accurate for a short barrel in 40. Its my favorite. AK would be a close second, followed by saiga 12 because race car.
Scotty2Hotty
M1A/M14 - 7.62X51mm round, accurate enough, semi auto, reliable, and recently became a very modular rifle.

Scotty2Hotty
That, and if run out of boolets damm things is heavy enough to make someone swallow alot of blood. A true battle rifle. I would consider the SA58 OSW a 2nd place rifle. http://world.guns.ru/userfiles/images/assault/as24/fal_dsa_sa58osw.jpg Select fire is nice.
