Spidey2721
ok computer peeps. what is the difference between g.skills ripjaws and sniper series. is there any? for example... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231518 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231476
1Quik7
Doesn't seem to be, the Sniper looks like a "theme" RAM, for those into case modding. I've had nothing but great experiences with Ripjaws over the years.
jeffro
Looks like the heat-sink is the only noticeable difference. Probably wont make a difference for you unless you're overclocking and need excessive heat dissipation.
Spidey2721
yea wasn't seeing any difference other then heat sink either. been window shopping thru ram for a couple weeks. running 4 non matched 2 gig strips. need to upgrade. Honestly... Meh. 8gb is still plenty for the average consumer, even for gaming. Even if they are different brands, they're still running in dual channel. I doubt you would see noticeable returns after upgrading. Clock speeds Probably wont be too much higher.
mrhobbz
Out of curiosity why DDR 2133? You can get 1866, 1333 or 1600 cheaper and local. You can pickup an 8GB kit of kingston hyper x for $54.99 or even 16GB of corsair xms3 ddr3-1600 for $79.99 http://www.microcenter.com/product/354611/Vengeance_Series_8GB_DDR3-1600_(PC3-12800)_CL9_Dual_Channel_Desktop_Memory_Kit_(Two_4GB_Memory_Modules) - $46.99 Oh, you're in Lima.. Still, can find the same deals on newegg. Edited January 8, 2013 by mrhobbz whoops.
Turbs3000
I'm sure you've already thought about it but can your board support 2133? And you must have a beast system if that's where your worries lie.

You wont see a demand for that on a home rig for another 4 or 5 years... There are no consumer products out there that require that much ram. I'm running a Corsair Hydro H60 with a extra fan on it. I love it my pc at full load overclocked to 4ghz (i7 960) runs cooler then my stock intel cooler @ stock clock idling . not bad for anyone who wants watercooling with out all the headaches of a true loop setup. 64GIG of ram, WOW my Server only has 32gigs
gillbot
I use my PC to crunch data for work, and my time is cut more than in half every time I double the ram. If 16gb sticks were available, I'd run those if my board would support it. I'm looking in to a better workstation solution with more ram slots but sadly those are just as expensive as the ram modules.

I already have plenty of 8gb sticks. I'm not shelling out $500 on a board just yet, and I already had an E5-2609. Decent chip, but i'm waiting for the 8/10c 16/20t chips to hit mainstream before I make a move.
